Expensive drugs and medicines need not be the only way to avoid annoying pains and illnesses. Sometimes all you need to do is open your cupboards and use what you already have. There are numerous proven home remedies out there that work on a range of common ailments, but since a lot of my friends would only consider natural solutions that are quick and easy, I thought I'd share these eight here. They're all super helpful and none of them require much time or effort. You may already know some, and some may be new to you, but either way, feel free to share them with your friends so they too can keep fit and healthy!

1. Black tea for sunburns

With warmer weather ahead, it’s time to spend as much time in the sun as possible. But you have to be careful, because you might accidentally get burned. If that happens to you this summer, try this: Just open your pantry and take out some black tea. Brew a pot of strong tea, soak it in a towel, and dab it on your skin—the tannic acid in the tea helps burned skin heal.

2. Baking powder/soda for bee stings and mosquito bites

Painful bee stings and itchy mosquito bites are enough to spoil a picnic. The next time you’re about to grab for a bottle full of chemicals, do this instead: Mix baking soda with water until it becomes a solid mass. Then, rub it wherever you have a bite or a sting. You’ll be feeling better in no time. You can also use baking soda, which is baking powder without the acid and starch. It’s that easy!

3. Apple cider vinegar for sore throats

Expensive cough medicine for your sore throat? Forget about it! This problem can be solved with a simple folk remedy. Just mix apple cider vinegar, a magical liquid that’s said to have many healing properties, with 1/2 a cup of water. Gargle a couple of times within an hour for maximum effect and most of the bacteria that gave you your sore throat will be gone. That’s all it usually takes!

4. The smell of mint for drowsiness

If you’re tired and drowsy, drinking a big cup of coffee is a proven pick-me-up. But this trick is even easier. All you need to do is sniff fresh mint leaves. It’s used in aromatherapy to wake people up. And it’s also an excellent way to be alert and get an awesome start to your day.

5. Honey for wounds

Honey is healing because it contains beneficial lactic acid bacteria—and eating it may speed up the process of healing wounds. It works best if you use wild honey because it’s considered to be especially rich in this healthy bacteria.

6. Duct tape for warts

Duct tape is works on almost everything—even warts. The tape smothers warts, causing them to die. Cover any warts that you have for about six days. Then, remove the tape and file down the dead skin. Repeat until the wart is gone. Simple and smart!

7. Mouthwash for beat up feet

Standing on your feet all day can be hard on your feet. To get rid of ingrown toenails, athlete’s foot, or to just soften your feet, give them mouthwash foot bath. The antibacterial properties of mouthwash do wonders on feet!

8. Chicken soup for colds

One well-known home remedy is to eat chicken soup when you’re suffering a tenacious cold. Chicken has been shown to have healing effects, so take advantage of it! There’s no harm in trying, and it’s delicious, too!
