After 37 Years, Mom Finally Loses Beehive Hairdo For A Modern Update.

For 37 years, Joan has worn her hair in the same beehive. And now her daughters, Cindy and Christine, think it’s finally time for a change.

They’ve watched their mother cling to her hairstyle even though it went out of style years ago. And they’ve also seen how it’s taken over her lifeJoan once even refused to fly because she didn’t want to take out her hairpins for airport security.

Then there’s all the time and effort Joan puts into her outdated look. Every Wednesday, she wakes up at 5:30 a.m. and styles her hair for the week. First, she removes the 12 hairpins holding her hair in place. Then, she brushes her hair, washes it, sets it in an array of rollers, and sits under a dryer for an hour. Once her hair is dry, Joan brushes it, teases it, and forms it into a beehive, before finally setting it in place with hairspray. All told, the process takes four hours!

So if Cindy and Christine were going to get their mother to update her hair, they’d need some extra help. And that’s when Oprah Winfrey got involved.

Oprah invited Joan and her daughters on her show and asked a team of stylists to give Joan a makeover. The goal was to freshen up Joan’s look and also give her more confidence, and behind closed doors, the stylists brought Joan’s hairstyle into the 21st century.

When it was time for Joan to show off the results, her daughters’ jaws dropped. Oprah’s stylists had Joan’s replaced gray beehive with beautiful blonde modern cut. It was as if the clock had turned back, and Oprah noted that Joan now looked more like Cindy and Christine’s sister than their mother.

But the best thing about Joan’s transformation? The confidence it’s given her.
