Here’s how to cure your migraines – through your diet

Many people suffer from migraines. If you’re not one, you surely know someone who does – and know how terrible they can be.

Migraines affect people differently, but can normally be defined as very strong headaches. In some cases, migraines may produce blurred vision as well as high sensitivity to light and sound. Some people even experience severe nausea and vomiting.

Common headache tablets tend not to be effective in treating migraines, with more powerful medications required to alleviate symptoms. But the best course of action, as is often the case, is prevention.

There are several ways to help prevent the onset of a migraine. The key lies in the fact that sufferers of migraines often have a deficiency of certain vitamins in their bodies – and this can lead to migraines.

Read more below about how you can prevent a migraine.

According to Amercian physician Dr. Weil, migraines affect 17 percent of women and 6 percent of men at some point in their lives. Some suffer more than others, and some experience such terrible symptoms that they are regularly forced to take sick leave from work.

Several elements may provoke a migraine. Some scientists believe that weather changes can trigger migraines, especially for the people who live in warm areas. There may also be a genetic element.

But new research is revealing that there are factors leading to migraines that you can in fact control. Vitamin deficiencies are being shown to exacerbate migraine symptoms. Research shows that a lack of folic acid, vitamin B6, vitamin B12 and vitamin D can trigger migraines. If you have a shortage of any of these in your daily diet, your risk of migraine increases by 300%.

According to Dr. Weil, there are also a number of foods that can trigger migraines. Here is a list of foods you should avoid if you are prone to suffer from migraines:

– Anchovies
– Avocado
– Banana
– Caffeine
– Aged cheese
– Chocolate
– Citrus fruits
– Figs
– Herring
– Lentils
– Peanuts
– Peas
– Processed meat (such as sausage and ham)
– Raisins
– Raspberries
– Red Plums
– Sardines
– Soy sauce
– Wine

In addition to eating right, it’s important to remember how important it is to sleep well – a lack of sleep may also trigger migraines. Finally, skipping meals, flashing lights or strong smelling chemicals or perfume are also migraine triggers.

If you often experience migraines, you should consider cutting down on any of the foods above if you happen to eat much of these. In addition, taking supplements for the above mentioned vitamins could help you prevent migraines. Finally – remember to sleep properly!
