Have you ever witnessed someone committing a crime and you didn't know what to do?
It takes both courage and a sense of civic duty to stand up and prevent a crime. But it also means exposing yourself to danger.
Perhaps that's why most people who see something bad happening are simply too afraid to act.
But of course, there are some heroes out—like the cowboy in this story.
Robert Borba knew what he had to do when he saw a thief stealing a woman's bicycle from a Walmart parking lot.
And what he did to stop the perpetrator is almost too good to be true...
It was an ordinary day at a Walmart in Eagle Point, Oregon.
But then right there in broad daylight, a masked man tried to pull off a heist, albeit a minor one.
A woman saw the thief trying to steal her bicycle. But as the guy got on her bike, something unexpected happened.
Robert Borba, a local cowboy, galloped up on his horse.
Robert describes the woman's call for help and his response.
"'Stop him! Stop him! He stole my bike! He stole my bike!' And I kind of look around and all of a sudden this guy goes whizzing by me on a bicycle," Robert explained.
Borba realized it was his only chance to catch the thief, so he acted immediately, writes CBS.
Robert chased after the thief. Then he pulled out his lasso and threw it.
The rope landed perfectly and wrapped around the perpetrator's ankle.
"A couple swings and then I threw it at him, just like I would a steer," Robert Borba said.
Robert then held the thief until the police arrived.
When local police officer Chris Adams arrived on the scene, he couldn't believe his eyes.
"I looked up and from the horse there was a rope connected to the ankle of a gentleman on the ground holding onto a tree," officer Adams said.
So did Robert want anything in exchange for his heroic effort? No, nothing at all. He was just trying to do the right thing, he says.
"If it was my wife or my little girl, I would hope somebody would help her if I wasn't around," Robert told CBS.
Talk about an unlikely hero!
This cowboy definitely deserves to be honored for his skill and courage. Please share so that more people can find out about this wonderful story!
