This Girl’s Sad Picture Of Her Grandpa Is Breaking The Internet’s Heart.

A photo of a grandfather looking sad and eating alone after five of his six grandchildren skipped a meal he made for them is going viral. Oklahoma college student Kelsey Harmon tweeted the photo Wednesday, adding: “Dinner with papaw tonight…he made 12 burgers for all 6 grandkids and I’m the only one who showed.  🙁 Love him.” The reaction to Papaw’s picture was almost instant. Harmon said she didn’t even expect one retweet when she posted the picture to Twitter. But her tweet went viral, and was retweeted more than 70,000 times in less than 24 hours. And its understandable, when you see the picture.

It’s hard to imagine how this sad situation came out. But Harmon told BuzzFeed News that now that the six grandkids are older, getting together like the did when they were younger is difficult.

Still, it was spring break and all of the grandchildren were in the area, so Pawpaw invited them over for dinner. “He’s always trying to make sure we all stay close to him and close to each other,” Harmon said.

Unfortunately, Harmon was the only one who showed up to dinner. She said at first, Papaw was excited because “he even made homemade ice cream, our favorite as kids.”

But after 30 minutes, no one else showed up and Pawpaw decided to have a hamburger while he waited.

Harmon said, “I could tell he was disappointed, but I made sure to stick around and hang out with him. We had a really great time.”

As the post went viral, many people wondered why the grandchildren didn’t show up to Pawpaw’s home-cooked meal. And some people even trolled Kelsey’s cousin Brock Harmon, who soon went over to Pawpaw’s and enjoyed a meal with him.

In the end, the Internet reaction brought Pawpaw and his grandchildren together.

Afterwards, Kelsey tweeted:

We’re glad that Pawpaw finally got to see his grandchildren and we hope that this story reminds you to visit and call your grandparents often. They do so much for us. The least we can do is show up!
