Arnold Schwarzenegger recently shared his thoughts about life after death with Danny DeVito, and they’re well… controversial.
“When people talk about, ‘I will see them again in heaven,’ it sounds so good, but the reality is that we won’t see each other again after we’re gone.”
Schwarzenegger and DeVito talked about the topic for Interview Magazine.
The 75-year-old actor and former bodybuilder said the topic reminded him of when Howard Stern asked him about what happens when we die.
He told DeVito he had a similar answer, “‘Nothing. You’re 6 feet under. Anyone that tells you something else is a f—ing liar.'”
“I said, ‘We don’t know what happens with the soul and all this spiritual stuff that I’m not an expert in, but I know that the body as we see each other now, we will never see each other again like that,'” he continued.
The Terminator continued discussing life after death by talking about his idea of heaven.
He said that while people talk about seeing loved ones again in heaven is a hopeful way to approach death, he sees it as a “fantasy.”
I know people feel comfortable with death, but I don’t.”
While the Terminator may have sounded crass, he revealed he has his own definition of heaven, one that’s developed over the past several years after losing more than a dozen friends in the bodybuilding community.
“To me, heaven is where I put a person who I love dearly, who is kind, who is generous, who made a difference in my life and other people’s lives,” he said. “I keep them in a spot in my head, like that front row that you have of all of your friends. And you always have a good feeling when you think of them.”
I like how Arnold Schwarzenegger described his version of heaven. It may not be the one that many people believe in, but it’s one that works for him, and to be honest that’s all that counts.
