In court documents filed on June 14th last week, Billy Ray Cyrus’ estranged wife Firerose made claims that 62-year-old Cyrus was emotionally, psychologically and verbally abusive toward her during their time together.

The 35-year-old estranged wife, filed this document to the court in Williamson County, Tennessee in response to Cyrus filing a divorce petition.

In the court documents, Firerose goes into detail describing her allegations against her estranged husband. She alleges Cyrus engaged in “intentional infliction of emotional distress for his financial abuse.” She goes on to say there was an “intentional delay of [her] long-planned surgery.” She clarified that the surgery in question was a preventative double mastectomy.

Firerose, whose real name is Johanna Rose Hodges, also alleged that Cyrus was responsible for “interfering in [her] career in the music industry.”

She also alleged that she was “subjected to [Cyrus’] persistent drug use accompanied with the consumption of marijuana, which made [him] unpredictable and volatile” towards her.

Firerose went on to claim that Cyrus had promised to pay for her aforementioned surgery and subsequent care but filed for a divorce a day before the surgery was planned to happen. She said she had “relied on [Cyrus’] promises to pay for her surgery, and [he] has now repudiated that promise.”

“On the day [Firerose] was set to get her surgery, she was instead searching for a place to live and under a significant amount of emotional distress,” the document claimed. It went on to allege that “his family members to harass her into leaving the marital home the day before her scheduled double mastectomy, and causing the rift in [her] relationships with her professional agents and representatives.”

Lawyers for Billy Ray Cyrus, Rose Palermo and Jason Talley of Cheatham Palermo and Garrett, released a statement following these claims saying, “We regret that Ms. Hodges has chosen to litigate this 7-month marriage in the press and has left Mr. Cyrus with no recourse but to set the record straight.”

“The allegations that Ms. Hodges states in her answer and counter-complaint are especially confusing and suspicious in its veracity since she begged Mr. Cyrus to forgive her and take her back only 2 days after he filed his pleadings to dissolve his marriage,” Cyrus’ lawyers claimed in their statement. “When Mr. Cyrus returned to his home 2 days after Ms. Hodges was required, by Court Order, to vacate his residence of over 25 years and allowed him to return, he discovered a handwritten note from Ms. Hodges professing her love and need to be with Mr. Cyrus.”

“If Mr. Cyrus was truly guilty of the allegations that Ms. Hodges alleges in her pleadings, then it is mindboggling to try and explain why she would want to return to live with him. Furthermore, she was pleading with him to give her a chance to explain everything to him,” the statement ended.

Cyrus’ lawyers also provided documentation of the letter and a text message which was allegedly sent by Firerose to Cyrus.

The abuse claims surfaced one day after it was found out that Cyrus was seeking a temporary restraining order against Firerose.

Cyrus also claimed that Firerose had spent $96,986 on 37 unauthorized charges using his business credit cards in recent weeks. According to the documents, the charges began on the same day Cyrus filed for divorce.

“As a result of these fraudulent charges… I am concerned that Ms. Hodges is in possession of other information that she may use to make fraudulent, unauthorized charges to my business and personal credit cards and accounts,” Cyrus wrote in his affidavit.

In response, Firerose said that there had been “no emergency” and that she had had access to Cyrus’ credit card information for years.

“To claim Wife has made 37 unauthorized charges is untrue,” her attorneys said in their response filing. “Throughout the divorce proceedings, the parties are to live as per the status quo during the marriage. Wife was simply living as she has since Oct. 10, 2023, and Husband has no right to cut her off.”

Cyrus claimed that they did not share any bank accounts, credit cards or real estate during the course of the relationship. He also alleged that neither party had ever been authorized to use one another’s cards or accounts. As for Firerose’s assets, Cyrus claims that she apparently owns real estate worth more than seven figures in Los Angeles and has more than $500,000 in “liquid and investment assets at her disposal.”

He is requesting that Firerose refund or return anything she has purchased with his business card.

According to the documents filed by Cyrus, he filed the paperwork on May 23 in Williamson County. He listed the date of separation as May 22 and cited the reason for the dissolution of their marriage as “irreconcilable differences” and “inappropriate marital conduct.” Under “Grounds for Annulment,” Cyrus had added that the “consent to marriage was obtained by fraud.”

The couple had first met on the set of Hannah Montana, a show Cyrus starred on with his daughter, Miley Cyrus. Cyrus and Firerose kept in touch and later became musical collaborators. They got engaged in August 2022 and tied the knot in the subsequent year, on October 10, 2023 in Franklin, Tennessee.
