Richard Simmons’ brother reveals ‘little secret’ about fitness guru’s burial

Richard Simmons entered the afterlife in style.

The late fitness guru was buried in his iconic workout clothes, according to his brother, Lenny Simmons. His brother shared the “little secret” during a celebration of life held Saturday, October 5 at St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans.

“Just like Clark Kent, underneath his beautiful things that he was wearing, his clothing, [Richard] is wearing a tank top and shorts,” Lenny told the crowd. “Why, you ask? Because we think that God has another plan for him and we want to make sure that he was going to be in his normal costume that we all know and love, to help the saints and the angels get into shape.”

“So I’m here to say to you that even though he’s not here — and I know he’s in spirit here tonight — Richard Simmons will forever be sweating with the holies,” Lenny said, according to a video shared by TMZ.

Richard died July 13, one day after his 76th birthday. In the days leading up to his death he suffered a fall and refused medical treatment. On the morning of July 13, he was found unresponsive on his bedroom floor. When emergency services arrived he was pronounced dead.

More than a month after his death the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office released the cause of his death. He died as the result of blunt traumatic injuries. Heart disease was also a contributing factor.

The celebration of life followed an intimate funeral, which accommodated only eight people.

“I lost my only brother, but all of you lost a friend, a teacher and a motivator,” Lenny said.

I still can’t believe Richard Simmons is gone. He will be missed forever.
