An Oregon woman is currently a half inch away from breaking a world record.
Sarah Vaeth unintentionally began her journey to claiming the world’s smallest waist in 2012 after she laced up a corset for the first time. The now 48-year-old fell in love with wearing restrictive corsets and has worn them ever since, despite them causing extreme physical pain.
During a May 2023 episode of the TLC show Crack Addicts, Vaeth visited the acclaimed chiropractor Dr. Alessandra Colón.
The mother-of-one described to Colón that she had been suffering from “ice pick” headaches.
“I have experienced migraines for most of my adult life. It’s a very sharp, very concentrated pain in one spot.”
Vaeth then revealed her obsession with corsets.
Colón believed the headaches were the result of damage caused by wearing a corset for hours on end.
“It’s going to affect you in the long run,’ she told Vaeth. “There’s a head tilt going on here, and a little rotation in your spine. So it puts pressure on one side.”
“I think I do need to take this seriously,” Vaeth admitted after taking her corset off and stretching. “Spending so many hours a day with those muscles immobilized in the corset [is not good].”
Vaeth’s corset-wearing journey began in 2012 as a way to improve her posture. But she quickly fell in love with the instant hourglass figure she acquired.
“Once I tried on my first corset, I was surprised by the dramatic effect it had on my appearance, even cinched relatively loosely,” she told Jam Press in 2020.
“The hyper-feminine curve it created was so different from my natural figure. The possibility of re-shaping the body was incredibly compelling to me and I was hooked on corsets from that moment on.”
She now wears a corset up to 16 hours a day.
She insists the only corsets that have ever caused pain were the ones not properly fitted for her body.
“Once my corset and my body are both broken in, the corset just feels like a firm vest – it’s supportive and comforting.”
Now she’s striving for the Guinness World Record for the world’s smallest waist. Last year her waist measured 15 and a half inches.
The current record belongs to Cathie Jung, who broke the record in 1999 at age 62 with a waist measuring 15 inches.
