Baker reveals his best tricks for cleaning oven pans

Cleaning glass forms

What you need

Glass forms can be one of the hardest cooking utensils to clean. The marks are often “burned” on, which makes them very difficult to remove. Fortunately, this trick should break down grime and make it much easier to clean what you need.

First, dip a toothbrush into the washing-up liquid and add baking soda. Use circular motions, apply the paste so that it’s covering all stains on the glass. For large pans, you can use a normal brush to apply the formula.

Let this rest for 20-30 minutes. Afterwards, take aluminium foil and use it to gently rub the affected areas. It will be stain free and clean afterwards!

Cleaning baking sheets and oven molds

What you need

Baking sheets and trays are used by the majority of us several times a week, for many different recipes. As a result, it’s not unusual for them to accumulate a lot of grime.

To clean them, pour a layer of baking soda over the pan. Then add another layer of hydrogen peroxide on top of this. Finally another layer of baking soda to round it off.

Leave the pan to stand for 1-2 hours, then scrub with a coarse swab or pad. The stains will come off with ease!

Alternative method

Here’s another proven method of cleaning stainless steel oven equipment.

What you need

Pour water and baking soda over the pan, wipe with a cloth.

Use a small piece of aluminium foil rolled a ball to scrub the harder spots.

Then wash thoroughly with warm water and soap. Make sure you allow time for air dry.

Aluminium molds can be revitalized and restored with the right technique.

To start, fill a pan equal amounts water and vinegar. Boil the mixture.

Once boiled, remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool to room temperature. Then dump a sponge into the mixture and start scrubbing the mold.

After cleaning, rinse with warm water and detergent. Let it air dry and enjoy your “new” aluminium form!
