Researchers confirm: This is why you should never sleep on the right side of your body

If you occasionally suffer dips in your energy levels throughout the day, it most likely has to do with how you’re sleeping at night. The reason could be as simple as sleeping on your right side … seriously. Below, we’ve listed explanations from researchers as to why it might be a good idea to start lying on your left side when you sleep, as per a study published at Journals Clinic Gastroenterology.

1: Improved Digestion

Because it lies towards the left side, it’s easier for the stomach to drain into the oesophagus if you sleep on the right side. If you’re lying on the left side, however, digestion will function better.

If you’ve ever had problems with your stomach before, it’s especially important to choose the left side over the right.

2: Better for the heart

The body’s largest artery (the aorta) curves to the left, meaning that it helps blood circulation if we sleep on our left side. On the other hand, if you sleep on your right side the blood has to be pumped upwards first, resulting in poorer blood circulation.

3: Relieving pressure on the spleen

The spleen is also located on the left side of the body. It’s tasked with cleaning our blood and removing waste. Sleeping on the same side actually facilitates its work rather than hindering it.

4: Better for your body on the whole

As a result of both the stomach and the pancreas sitting on the left side of the body, the entire system is serviced better if you avoid sleeping on your right side!
