43-year-old dad who cleaned elementary school for 23 years finally graduates with teaching degree

He has kept the halls and classrooms of a Georgia elementary school clean for more than two decades.

As a valued worker at Hightower Elementary School in DeKalb County, Tylan Bailey was made head janitor. But little did his colleagues know that behind the scenes he was working on something else.

For the past four years the hardworking cleaner has been juggling his tough schedule with his studies for a teaching degree.

Now finally his hard work has paid off and he has graduated from Georgia State University with a teaching degree.

Tylan, who decided to go back to school in 2017 while still working as head janitor, said: “‘A lot of people around the building always ask me ‘when do I sleep.'”

Hightower Elementary Principal Sheila Price said he was a valued member of the school community and they would be sorry to see him go.

‘Always be more’

“He’s the kind of person you want in your building, on your side. It’s a bittersweet moment because we love him, and we want to keep him here. But we know this is a huge step, and we support him,” she said, as per Yen.com.

Tylan has been asked to be the commencement speaker at the school’s 5th-grade graduation ceremony.

The 43-year-old dad whose motto is ‘Always be more’ now hopes to become a physical education teacher.

Such an amazing man who I’m sure will inspire so many others to follow their dreams, whatever their situation.

Help us congratulate Tylan by sharing this story.
