Extremely unusual moose calves caught on film

Luckily, these beautiful and rare creatures where spotted by a passer-by, who managed to get some great footage of the calves from his car. Lee Kantar, is a biologist and has watched the video of the animals. He’s pretty certain that the calves are about a month-old and that they might be albino.

“If it’s true that they are, it’s extremely rare.” he told National Geographic.

In the clip, you can also see their mother, who is keeping a protective eye on her kids. She clearly looks different from her children and is completely brown. Below you can watch the extraordinary footage for yourself.

There are also cases of white moose that are not necessarily albino. In Sweden, a white moose was spotted in 2015 with dark eyes with a condition by the name of leucism, which Wikipedia describes likes this: “A condition in which there is partial loss of pigmentation in an animal resulting in white, pale, or patchy coloration of the skin, hair, feathers, scales or cuticle, but not the eyes. Unlike albinism, it is caused by a reduction in multiple types of pigment, not just melanin.”

It’s hard to see in the video clip if these two calves have dark eyes or not, so there is a chance that they could very well be albino.

I really hope they will be able to grow up- to become big and beautiful!
