In 1960 he bought a Rolex - now watch when its value is revealed 56 yrs later

You never know. You might be sitting on some real treasure without even knowing it. It might be that old comic book in your closet or the vintage handbag in you attic. But you won't find out until you take it out of storage and have it appraised.

Throughout the years, we've seen people realize that everything from the old blanket on their sofa to the tea bowl bowl they bought at a yard sale might be worth a bundle. And last year, this older gentleman got a shock when he decided to get his old watch appraised.

He had no idea how much money he was carrying around on his wrist for so many years.

Many years ago, this man served the U.S. Army.

He was stationed in Germany, and in 1960 when was time to go home, he got what would turn out to be good advice from one of his superiors.

"My sergeant recommended that before I came back to the States I buy a Rolex watch," said the man.

Fortunately, he followed the sergeant's advice.

He went to the Army PX and saw something that caught his eye: a 1960 GMT Master Model Rolex.

He had never seen or heard of the brand, but he trusted the sergeant.

The watch cost him a whole month's salary: $120. But it turned out to be a bargain in the long run.

Without knowing it, the man had bought the first GMT Master Model that Rolex ever made.

As the years passed, the man wore his Rolex less and less, but he held on to it as a keepsake.

Not only that, he also kept the box and the receipts.

Fast forward 56 years to 2016 and the man was curious about how much his old watch was worth.

He met with watch expert Peter Planes on "Antiques Roadshow" in Tucson, Arizona and soon got quite a shock.

Just the watch itself turned out to be worth somewhere between $35,000 and $45,000!

But that's not all...

Because the man saved the box and receipts, the value of the watch shot up to an unbelievable $65,000-$75,000!

Check out this clip and watch the man's wonderful reaction:
