Becoming a parent is probably among the greatest and most beautiful experiences in your life. But when it’s your first child, you probably don’t know for sure what to do, or how to do it.
Imagine how good it would be if someone gave you a starter kit with everything you need.
Believe it or not, that’s actually the case in Finland.
For 75 years, Finland’s expectant mothers have been given a box by the state with clothes, sheets and toys that can even be used as a bed, according to BBC.
Among other things, every box contains:
– Mattress, mattress cover, undersheet, duvet cover, blanket, sleeping bag/quilt.
– Clothes for every season and situation.
– Picture books and toys.
– Towels and hygiene items.
And best if all, the starter kit is for free. If parents want it, they have to get an appointment with a doctor before four months of pregnancy. Then, they’ll get to choose between the starter kit or 150 dollars. 95 percent of the times, parents choose the starter kit that has a much higher value.
Some say the starter kit helped Finland achieve one of the world’s lowest infant mortality rates. Several surveys show that Finnish mothers are among the happiest in the world, according to BBC.
