Prince Harry’s life has had its fair share of ups and downs, not least because he had to go through the unimaginable tragedy of losing his mother, Princess Diana, when he was still a child. But when he released his book, Spare, some years ago, it turned out that several other incidents had affected him, and one even happened the same day he was born.
King Charles is said to be heartbroken over the non-existent relationship with his son and mostly his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Meanwhile, recent claims suggest he isn’t taking his son’s calls, and Harry has even been accused of not wanting to make amends.
While the rift between Harry and the royal family has been ongoing since he and his wife, Meghan Markle, left the Firm, the scars appear to have been inflicted long before that. One royal expert claims that Charles was “terrified” of Harry for one pretty sad reason.
Prince Harry didn’t have much interest in royal life after he and Meghan Markle got married. The Duke felt he was treated like a “spare” and wasn’t as important as his older brother, Prince William. In the end, after what Harry and Meghan felt was the horrific treatment of the two, they decided to leave for good.
King Charles ‘wasn’t happy’ when Prince Harry was born
It didn’t take long before they began accusing the royal family of many things, some more serious than others. Meanwhile, it also appeared that Harry had been carrying around a lot of anger toward his family members, and some things suggest it began on the day he was born.
Prince William was born only two years before Prince Harry, but since the firstborn was to become the future king, the fuss was, of course, bigger around William’s birth.
According to author Andrew Morton, Princess Diana felt enormous pressure when the time came to give birth to her first son, Prince William. In Diana: Her True Story, he wrote that Diana felt the pressure was “unbearable” and even tried to pick a day when Charles wasn’t playing polo.
There was great excitement when William was welcomed into the world. Yet when Harry arrived a few years later, Charles appeared less thrilled.
In Diana: Her True Story, Diana claimed that Charles always wanted a daughter – and barely hid his disappointment when he saw Harry for the first time.
“I knew Harry was going to be a boy because I saw on the scan,” she explained. “Charles always wanted a girl. He wanted two children, and he wanted a girl. I knew Harry was a boy, and I didn’t tell him.”
Harry felt he was the “plan B”
“First comment was: ‘Oh God, it’s a boy,’ second comment: ‘And he’s even got red hair,'” Diana added.
Moreover, Charles allegedly expressed his disappointment when Harry was christened. According to the late princess, Charles told her mother: “We were so disappointed – we thought it would be a girl.”
“Mummy snapped his head off, saying: ‘You should realized how lucky you are to have a child that’s normal.’ Every since that day, the shutters have come down, and that’s what he does when he gets somebody answering back at him,” Diana said, adding that as Harry was born, their marriage “went down the drain.”
It is no secret that Harry was unhappy with Charles’s actions after his mother’s death. He mentioned that he believed that, as Spare’s title confers, he was his family’s “spare” member. He even claimed he knew he was born in case his big brother William needed blood or an organ donation.
“I was the shadow, the support, the plan B,” Harry wrote. “I was brought into the world in case something happened to Willy, I was summoned to provide backup, distraction, diversion … This was all made explicitly clear to me from the start of life’s journey.”
The word “spare” has become synonymous with Harry and his feelings about his role in the Royal Family. He even claimed that Charles was the first to use it.
Prince Harry said King Charles “stopped engaging” in play time when he got older
Sadly, as Harry and William grew up, the Duke already felt that there were “barriers” between him and his father because of Charles’ age.
“He’d been an older dad, and I’d always felt that this created problems, placed barriers between us,” Harry wrote in Spare. “In his middle years he’d become more sedentary, more habitual. He liked his routines. He wasn’t the kind of father who played endless rounds of tag, or tossed a ball until long after dark.”
However, Harry recalled that Charles had the energy to play with him and his brother when he was younger.
“But, long before we were ready, he stopped engaging in that kind of physical fun. He just didn’t have the enthusiasm,” Harry continued.
In his book, Harry further recalled the horrific moment he got the word on his mother, Princess Diana’s, death. He claimed his father didn’t even hug him after the tragic news had been delivered to him.
Many years later, he and his brother got into a physical altercation.
“He set down the water, called me another name, then came at me. It all happened so fast. So very fast,” Harry wrote.
“He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor. I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out.”
Royal expert claims KIng Charles was “terrified” of Prince Harry years before royal feud
Harry added that William urged him to fight back like he had done as a boy, but he refused. Instead, William left, only to later return “looking regretful.” The future king apologized,” telling Harry not to tell “Meg” about it.
“You mean that you attacked me?” Harry asked his brother.
“I didn’t attack you, Harold,” William answered, per Harry’s book.
According to Harry, King Charles always supported his brother. Sadly, a new bombshell claim suggests that King Charles had concerns that Harry wasn’t as “stable” and reliable as his brother.
Royal expert Tom Quinn, author of Scandals of the Royal Palaces: An Intimate Memoir of Royals Behaving Badly, states that Charles has felt William is more reliable and has been for many, many years, which could be one of the issues behind the father-son’s bad relationship today.
“Harry’s real beef is that he is convinced Charles always preferred William anyway and not just because William is the heir. Harry’s difficulties when he was a teenager and his increasing volatility as an adult terrified Charles, who turned to the far more stable, risk-free William,” Tom Quinn told the Mirror.
He continued: “Charles increasingly saw William as a safe pair of hands and Harry as too emotionally unstable. Deep down, Harry knows this, and he deeply resents it.”
As mentioned, Harry and King Charles aren’t on speaking terms at all. Some weeks ago, royal expert Jennie Bond claimed that Harry has “no interest” in making amends with the royals. However, even though he might want to mend his relationship with his father, a source tells People Magazine that their communication has deteriorated in recent months.
Prince Harry accused of ’emotionally blackmailing’ King Charles
According to a friend of Harry’s, King Charles is no longer responding to his son’s calls or letters.
“He gets ‘unavailable right now,'” a friend of Harry’s told People Magazine. “His calls go unanswered. He has tried to reach out about the King’s health, but those calls go unanswered too.”
The fact that King Charles doesn’t get to see his grandchildren, Prince Archie, and Princess Lilibet, has reportedly been very tough on the monarch.
Speaking with the Daily Beast, friends of King Charles have accused Harry of “emotional blackmail” by pretty much threatening his father that he’ll never again meet Archie and Lilibet.
The source argued that Harry wants to pressure Charles to use his influence to help the Sussexes get increased security when visiting the UK.
“Harry has lost his security case in court, and is now trying the emotional blackmail route to get what he wants instead, cynically using the threat of Archie and Lilibet never meeting their grandfather again as a tactic to coerce the king into overruling RAVEC.,” the source told the Daily Beast.
“The idea that the security forces are going to allow the Sussexes to be attacked by an acid-throwing or knife-wielding maniac on British soil is absurd, and Harry knows it. Using it as leverage, as a reason to withhold his kids from their grandfather, is beyond contempt,” the monarch’s friend added. “Charles is being treated for very serious cancer, so even if he could find the time, he cannot just fly to Los Angeles at the drop of a hat, like Harry can—and actually did earlier this year—in the other direction.”
“It’s really sad to see”
When Harry left royal life, the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC) stripped him of the right to automatic police protection in the UK. Moreover, the Duke’s offer to pay for any protection himself was rejected because the British police force couldn’t be hired.
For Archie and Lilibet, not getting to visit the UK hurts their relationship with their grandfather and their entire royal family tree. They have never met their cousins, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, and all that has to do with the feud between their parents and Prince William and Kate Middleton.
GB News royal editor Svar Nanan-Sen said, “Archie and Lilibet have no relationship with George, Charlotte and Louis – and they’re cousins. So this this feud between Harry and William and Kate and Meghan is creating a rift down the entire family that is crossing generations.”
Royal expert Cameron Walker added, “George, Charlotte, and Louis are not going to have that with their two cousins, Prince Archie, and Princess Lilibet – it’s really sad to see, and it’s also not their fault.”
Meanwhile, an “old family friend of several generations of royals,” as described by the Daily Beast, said that Archie and Lilibet are “being denied a meaningful relationship” with King Charles.
“To deprive them of that experience, with all its importance and heritage, seems very misguided. Of course, he wants to see them, but if you force Charles to choose between his duty to the Crown and his personal feelings, he will choose the Crown every time—just as his mother did;” the insider told the Daily Beast.
