Liam Payne wished to donate his organs to those in need upon the event of his untimely death, according to new reports.
The singer, who rose to superstardom as a member of the wildly popular boyband One Direction, met a tragic end last month after falling from a third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires. Fans around the world were left reeling in grief thereafter, with the 31-year-old’s funeral held earlier this week.
RadarOnline now claim that Payne wanted to donate his organs to gravely ill people in the event of his death, but this wasn’t able to come to pass due to the amount of narcotics in his system.
The outlet cite a source in the Argentina capital as stating: “Liam had told his friends in the final weeks and months of his life that it was his wish to have his organs donated if he died suddenly.”
“It was his desire to help others if he could, even if that was in death. But a combination of the drugs in his body at the time he died and the trauma he suffered in the fall meant that just wasn’t possible.”
Reports of Payne behaving erratically in the hours leading up to his passing were rampant in the days following the fatal incident. Police probing his death revealed that the singer had taken a cocktail of drugs on the day of his demise, as well as having drunk a large amount of alcohol.
Authorities found the hotel room Payne fell from trashed, while drug paraphernalia was in evidence. A later toxicology report confirmed that the hitmaker had a blend of potent drugs in his bloodstream, including pink cocaine – a mix of ketamine, methamphetamine, and ecstasy — as well as benzodiazepine, cocaine, and crack.
In the aftermath of the One Direction star’s death, three people have been charged: Payne’s friend, a hotel staff member, and an alleged drug dealer.
