New health update on Queen Camilla amid chest infection

Queen Camilla has had the most dramatic royal tenure in recent decades. From being Charles’s mistress to becoming the king’s spouse, Camilla has become one of the most beloved and crucial members of the Royal Family, not least because of how she handled her husband’s cancer treatment, which has forced her to take on even more responsibility within the Firm.

King Charles is finally now returning to his royal duties. The king and queen recently came back to the UK from a tour of Australia and Samoa, but sadly, the last days have been days of mourning for Camilla after the death of her dog.

The queen has also been forced to cancel royal events over the last few weeks due to an ongoing chest infection. A few days ago, Buckingham Palace released an update on Camilla’s health, and now a source close to her has offered even more details.

Queen Camilla has played a crucial part in the Royal Family this year. With her husband, King Charles, and also Kate Middleton undergoing cancer treatment, the 77-year-old had to step up and, in many ways, assume the greatest responsibility.

Now Charles is finally back on track and set to return to his royal duties. He decided to pause his cancer treatment while he and Camilla traveled to Australia and Samoa, from where they returned home in late October.

But sadly, the warm weather “down under” didn’t save Camilla from becoming ill. On November 5, Buckingham Palace released a statement saying that the Queen Consort had to pull out of a number of engagements due to a chest infection.

“Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement.

“With great regret, Her Majesty has therefore had to withdraw from her engagements for this week, but she very much hopes to be recovered in time to attend this weekend’s Remembrance events as normal.”

Queen Camilla health update

It was the first time since February 2023, when Camilla tested positive for Covid-19, that she was forced to cancel royal events. She hoped to return to royal duties for the Remembrance weekend, but sadly, that wasn’t possible.

Queen Camilla hadn’t been seen in public for weeks, and just days ago, a new update on her health arrived. According to the Daily Mail’s palace insiders, Camilla is in “good spirits” and decided to pull out of her recent engagements to not spoil anyone’s day because of her cough.

They added that Camilla is “on good form,” but she coughs as soon as she starts speaking. Gladly, the source stated there is no need to worry about her health moving forward. On Friday, Charles attended the Royal Variety Performance alone.

“[The Queen] is a great believer that the show must go on and hopes to be back to full strength and regular public duties very soon,” an insider told the Daily Mail, adding that Camilla “sensibly” listened to her doctors to not “overstretch herself.”

While Camilla is “feeling a little under the weather,” she was “naturally disappointed to miss the evening’s entertainments, and sends her sincere apologies to all those involved.”

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson told Vanity Fair: “Following a recent chest infection, The Queen continues to experience some lingering post-viral symptoms, as a result of which doctors have advised that, after a busy week of engagements, Her Majesty should prioritise sufficient rest.”

Queen Camilla praised for new documentary

Although Camilla was recovering at home, far away from the sear of the spotlight, she still managed to become the talk of the town. On November 11, the documentary Her Majesty The Queen: Behind Closed Doors aired on ITV in the UK. The documentary highlighted the progress that’s been made to eliminate domestic and sexual violence in the UK. Camilla has been a longtime supporter of charities that support domestic violence victims.

In Her Majesty The Queen: Behind Closed Doors, Camilla met with four women aged 15 and 20 who worked with the SafeLife charity, of which Camilla is a royal patron.

“It is going to take a long, long time because it has been going on forever,” Camilla said of domestic violence in the documentary. “But I think if you look at the steps that we’ve taken since the bad old days, we have made a huge amount of progress, and I shall keep on trying until I am able to no more.”

It didn’t take long before the Queen Consort was praised for her efforts after the documentary had aired.

“Queen Camilla, every time we talk about this it helps people to identify when it’s happening to them,” one person said as per Daily Mail. “And for us to see when it’s happening to others. Thank you for your action and commitment.”

“The Queen Camilla documentary on ITV is very moving already,’ a second added. “I suspect the scale of domestic violence and abuse would shock most of us, and Her Majesty’s compassion is clear to see.”

Queen Camilla mourns death of her dog

Camilla’s period of resting at home has also brought incredible heartbreak to her royal household. In mid-November, the queen issued a heartbreaking statement that her beloved rescue dog Beth sadly had passed away. Beth, a Jack Russell terrier, was put down after suffering from an untreatable tumor.

“A sad farewell to Beth, The Queen’s much-loved companion from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home who brought such joy, whether on walkies, helping on official duties, or curled up by the fire,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement.

Camilla adopted Beth in 2012 from the Battersea Dogs and Cats home, which she also patrons with her other Jack Russell dog, Bluebell. Beth was only 12 weeks old at the time. Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live in 2020, the queen opened up about her love for dogs.

“The nice thing about dogs is you can sit them down, you could have a nice long conversation, you could be cross, you could be sad and they just sit looking at you wagging their tail,” Camilla said.

Queen Camilla has visited the Battersea Dogs and Cats home several times. Moreover, she even included a nod to her dogs in her Coronation dress. In the introduction to the book Top Dogs: A British Love Affair, Camilla wrote more about her love for her dogs.

“I fell in love with her”

“My own dogs, Beth and Bluebell, cannot claim to have saved any lives, but I am, nonetheless, very proud of their resilience,” she wrote. “Beth came from a family who could no longer care for her, and poor Bluebell had been found abandoned in the woods, three weeks old, starving, covered in sores, with a docked tail and just a few patches of fur.”

Camilla adde: “Battersea nursed her back to health, and I fell in love with her when I visited their brilliant centre in 2012.”

The Royal Family’s year is soon coming to an end. The family will, as every year, spend Christmas and Year’s Eve at Sandringham House, where they can relax and take some time off from their royal duties. This year has been one of the more dramatic in recent times, with both the king and Kate Middleton undergoing cancer treatments.

Some have even argued that it’s time for Prince William to take over the throne, but since King Charles waited several decades to become king, that will likely not happen anytime soon. Of course, one day William will take over. That will likely happen when his father dies, and even though it could be 20 years before that day comes, plans for the king’s funeral are already underway.

If Queen Camilla is still with us at that moment, many things will change. However, reports suggest that certain things have already caused tension within the Royal Family.

Operation Menai Bridge

Operation Menai Bridge is the detailed plan for what will happen when King Charles dies – including his funeral plans – and many things that will occur in the hours following his passing will be traditionally the same as for any deceased monarch.

Many will be instantly informed at the time of King Charles’ death. Charles’ private secretary will contact his family, the prime minister, the cabinet secretary, the King’s Privy Council Office, and other senior ministers and officials. The Royal Family will then issue an “official notification” for the public, and there are already scripts in place for how other officials will be alerted.

Meanwhile, the cabinet secretary will continue to email senior civil servants and ministers. As soon as the messages are received, the flags at Whitehall — including the royal castles — will be lowered to half-mast.

Death is entirely natural, but still, of course, it leaves deep wounds for family members. Sadly, the feelings surrounding King Charles’ eventual funeral and Prince William succeeding him on the throne appear worrisome. In October, The Daily Beast reported that the Firm is being ‘torn apart’ by the plans, causing tensions.

‘Tearing the Royal Family apart’

Royal Commentator Tom Sykes at The Daily Beast revealed that the “power dynamic” between Charles and Prince William had shifted since the monarch was diagnosed with cancer in early 2024. Executive power and influence “are already” flowing in William’s way. The royal expert added that this could be a bad sign for his brother, Prince Harry.

Moreover, Queen Camilla is likely the one most affected by this. Sykes states that King Charles’ passing could significantly affect his wife, as she has been “tolerated” by William for the sake and stability of the Royal Family.

There have been rumors that King Charles wants to prepare for the day he no longer exists by having Prince Andrew leave the Royal Lodge for Camilla to move into when he passes. However, Andrew reportedly doesn’t want to leave, and it is unlikely that Prince William will prioritize this issue the day he becomes king.

William and Camilla’s relationship has become stronger over the years. Still, royal expert Christopher Andersen told Us Weekly that the future king merely “tolerates” his stepmother, who is said to have been “a little afraid” of William.

Prince William & Queen Camilla has “a lot to overcome,”

Queen Camilla’s family friend said that William has “warmed up to Camilla over time” and that they have a “familial relationship,” but there is “a lot to overcome.”

“William and Harry had always distrusted Camilla and felt resentment toward her because of their devotion to their mother. They never felt comfortable opening up to her in any real way. William and Harry’s distrust grew when they found out Camilla was leaking stories to the press to make herself look better,” the source told Us Weekly.
