Doctor who allegedly “cheered” Charlie Kirk’s death resigns from role

The doctor accused of having “cheered” after news broke of Charlie Kirk’s death has handed in his resignation.

33-year-old Lexi Kuenzle, a nurse at Englewood Health in New Jersey, sued both her employer and Dr. Matthew Jung last week, alleging that the latter “cheered and celebrated” the assassination of right wing political influencer Charlie Kirk in front of patients and other hospital staff.

Kuenzle was suspended after having reported Jung, and while the findings of the hospital’s investigation have not been disclosed at this time, it’s now been confirmed that Englewood Health have accepted Jung’s resignation.

In an email to Fox News, the healthcare provider wrote that it had “[a]ccepted the physician’s resignation, and the nurse is expected to work her scheduled shifts.”

“The nurse was never fired; was never told she would be fired by Englewood Hospital; and will not miss any pay as part of our review of this matter,” they added.

Kuenzle appeared on Fox and Friends on Monday morning alongside her attorney. She told hosts then that she had never met Dr. Jung prior to the incident on Wednesday, September 10.

“He was standing there, celebrating the death of Charlie Kirk, saying how ‘he deserved it,’ he hated Charlie Kirk and ‘he had it coming to him,’” the 33-year-old said.

“Speaking up wasn’t optional for me; it was my duty as a nurse to protect patients from that kind of cruelty and to uphold the integrity of our profession,” the nurse said in a statement.

Kuenzle claims that while she was standing at a nurse’s station with eight of her colleagues, with a patient in a stretcher nearby, she described Kirk’s shooting as “terrible”.

As per the New York Post, Dr. Jung then replied: “I hate Charlie Kirk. He had it coming. He deserved it.”

Kuenzle challenged how a doctor could ‘say someone deserved to die’, regardless of their political views, and eventually Dr. Jung offered to buy lunch for the nurses present as a way of apologizing.

The nurse reported Dr. Jung to management before sharing the story to her social media after she had clocked off of work. She claimed she was summoned to a meeting with her superiors the following day, where she was suspended without pay amid an investigation. She also said she was told she’d likely be fired.

Political influencer Kirk was shot through the neck last Wednesday while speaking at Utah Valley University. 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, of Utah, was taken into custody on Friday after a concerted manhunt, and is expected to be formally charged this week.
