Donald and Melania Trump have departed the UK and returned to the US after a three-day state visit. The trip included an important meeting between Donald and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, while Melania was also on First Lady duties. Not by herself, but together with Kate Middleton.
But while Kate and Melania seemed to have a great time together, one body language expert now claims they also shared a tense moment.
Donald and Melania Trump arrived in the UK late Tuesday for their second state visit. It’s the first time ever a president has been invited twice for a state visit to the UK. For Donald, the first time was with the late Queen Elizabeth.
The visit was marked by unprecedented pomp and extensive security. The Trumps were welcomed to Windsor by Prince William and Kate Middleton, and after the Wednesday night state banquet, Thursday gave Melania and Kate a chance to spend some quality time together.
Kate Middleton and Melania Trump toured Queen Mary’s Dolls House and the Royal Library at Windsor Castle together. At Frogmore Gardens, they met members of the Scouts’ Squirrels program and joined a group of 4 to 6 year olds to create art.
Kate Middleton and Melania Trump stepped out for joint royal engagement
Melania joined a small group who pressed inked leaves onto paper and added illustrations, to which she remarked, “This is beautiful!”
Meanwhile, Kate sat on the grass speaking with some of the children about the art they had made. At one point, one youngster took Melania’s hand and showed her the “bug hotels” they’d been building from cardboard.
“Show me how, what I should do,” Melania said, per People, revealing that her favorite bug is a “ladybug.”
Kate Middleton and Melania Trump both had gifts for the children as well. The Princess of Wales had prepared a special packed lunch featuring sandwiches made with honey from the family’s summer home, Anmer Hall. Meanwhile, Melania brought honey from the White House.
Melania appeared to thoroughly enjoy the day. According to royal expert Victoria Arbiter, the royal engagement with Kate has given the first lady more “substance.” The royal expert also praised their outfits.
“Often, any lady in the public eye, it really is always about what they wear,” Arbiter told Today Extra, per People Magazine. “And both of these ladies have done a very good job of championing designers from their own countries, but the white House really wanted to have a bit more substance to the First Lady’s program.”
Kate Middleton and Melania Trump shared ‘tense’ moment, body language expert claims
“Melania Trump looked a little tentative, but children (are) so good at disarming anyone… it doesn’t matter if you’re the First Lady of the United States. They hopped on her lap, they were drawing together, asking all sorts of questions, and she clearly enjoyed that interaction.”
Whether Kate and Melania have become firm friends remains unknown. King Charles and Donald Trump are said to be pen pals, and time will tell whether the same will go for the princess and the first lady.
When Donald and Melania arrived, William and Kate stopped for a chat as King Charles and Queen Camilla joined them. In that moment, body language expert and celebrity psychic Inbaal Honigman stated that there was a ‘tense’ moment between Kate and Melania.
“There’s a photo of Melania from the back talking with Princess Catherine and Camilla is in between them – it’s a fabulous picture,” Honigman told Unilad.
“As the ladies assemble for a chat, the most comfortable of the three appears to be Queen Camilla because her feet are placed slightly apart whereas both Catherine and Melania’s feet are close together.”
The body language expert continued: “When somebody stands with their feet apart, it means they’re happy to take up extra space and means they are content. Their hands tell the rest of the story. Even though their facial expressions are similar across the board, with both Kate, Camilla and Melania all flashing neutral, calm smiles, their hands are very different.”
“Like a fish out of water”
Honigman added that Kate held her hands in front of her, which could be described as “slightly protective.” However, Melania kept her hand tightly in her fist, which, according to the body language expert, suggested she might not have been entirely comfortable.
“However, Melania’s hand is noticeably tight into her fist – that shows she may feel like a fish out of water, a bit tense in that conversation,” the body language expert concluded.
