Keith Urban “not as supportive” of Kidman’s career, claims insider

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban are officially calling time on their marriage, 19 years after they tied the knot.

The superstars, who grew to become one of the entertainment industry’s most stable and iconic couples, have reportedly been living separately since before the summer. Though it was Kidman who formally filed for divorce earlier this week, People have cited insider sources who claim the Oscar-winning actor fought desperately to save the marriage.

An official reason for the high-profile split hasn’t been given, but numerous reports speculate that there have been cracks in the relationship for some time.

One said crack may have come as a result of Kidman upping her workload in recent years. The celebrated actor let her schedule slow to a near standstill when her two daughters by Urban, Sunday and Faith, were younger.

Indeed, back in December 2024, Kidman told CBS News that she had thought to herself “I’m pretty much done now” with acting after welcoming Sunday. Yet her mom, who passed away in September 2024, ultimately changed her mind.

“We were living on a farm,” said Kidman in December.

“And that’s when my mother said, ‘I wouldn’t give up completely. Keep a finger sort of in it.’ And I’m like, ‘No, no. I’m done now. I’m done.’ She’s going, ‘Just listen to me. Keep moving forward. Not saying that you have to do it to the level you’ve been doing it, but I wouldn’t give it up completely.'”

In recent years, Kidman has enjoyed something of a resurgence with regards to her career, appearing in a number of films and TV shows.

A source close to the family reportedly told People that the 58-year-old “truly thrived working again. She’s been feeling amazing and very happy about having a career again.”

“Now when they are older, [Sunday and Faith] love seeing their mom work. They are very supportive of their mom,” says the source.

The anonymous tipster added, however, that Urban isn’t quite so enthusiastic.

“Keith was used to her being supportive of his career,” said the source. “He’s not been as supportive as she hoped.”

Though speculation has come thick and fast this week in wake of the news that the couple are splitting, more concrete information can be found in the court filing lodged by Kidman.

The documents reveal that Kidman asked to become the primary residential parent for the pair’s daughters. Urban is said to have agreed to the deal, meaning Sunday and Faith will spend 306 days a year with their mother, and just 59 with their father.

What’s more, Kidman and Urban are both required to attend a parenting seminar within 60 days of divorce proceedings being filed. Urban, it’s said, has already “prepaid all child support obligations.”

One of the more surprise points of the court filing relates to the prenup the couple signed prior to their marriage 19 years ago. As per Hello!, a clause found in the prenup outlines how Urban is entitled to $600,000 from Kidman for every year he’s abstained from illicit drugs and alcohol during the course of their marriage.

All told, that means the New Zealander may receive over $11 million.
