18-year-old Jayden Wallace is facing serious charges, including first-degree vehicular homicide and reckless driving, after he and four other students pranked a 40-year-old teacher, Jason Hughes, who took a horrifying turn. The teacher died from his injuries, and now, Wallace and his family has broken the silence.
What was supposed to be a prank ended in tragedy in Gainesville, Georgia. Five students from the North Hall High School went to the home of their teacher, Jason Hughes, to play a prank by covering his property with toilet paper.
As Hughes, 40, came outside and noticed what the students had been up to, the teens rushed back to their vehicles and were about to leave. However, just moments later, Hughes reportedly tripped and fell into the road. He was struck by a pickup truck driven by 18-year-old Jayden Ryan Wallace.
Hughes later died from his injuries and the five studens were taken into custody. Wallace was charged in connection with the incident, while four other students were arrested and charged with misdemeanors related to trespassing and littering.

The community is mourning the loss of Jason Hughes. Not long after the tragic news became public, his wife, Laura, made a statement to the New York Times.

Laura, who also worked at the school, said she knew about the prank and was “excited and waiting to catch them in the act.” She added that she wanted the charges against the students to be dropped.
“This is a terrible tragedy, and our family is determined to prevent a separate tragedy from occurring, ruining the lives of these students,” Laura Hughes said. “This would be counter to Jason’s lifelong dedication of investing in the lives of these children.”
