A growing rift between Donald Trump and longtime ally Tucker Carlson is spilling into public view.
Donald Trump recently took aim at the conservative podcaster Tucker Carlson in a Truth Social post, calling him “a low IQ person – always easy to beat, and highly overrated,” according to Tyla. This came just days after Carlson openly questioned Trump’s leadership.
For years, Carlson had been one of Trump’s most vocal defenders. He backed Trump’s presidential run in 2016, and that support only deepened during his second term. Now, however, that loyalty appears to be unraveling.
Tucker Carlson criticizing Trump
On a recent episode of his podcast, Carlson said he regrets the role he played in helping Trump rise to power.
“You know, we’ll be tormented by it for a long time – I will be,” Carlson reportedly said. “And I want to say I’m sorry for misleading people.
“It was not intentional, that’s all I’ll say.”
He described the moment as a time to “wrestle with our own consciences.”
Carlson pointed to Trump’s recent alignment with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu – and their joint missile strike on Iran – as a turning point. During the podcast, Carlson criticized Trump’s rhetoric toward Iran as “vile on every level,” while also acknowledging his own role in Trump’s 2024 victory over Kamala Harris.
“You and I and everyone else who supported him,” he said. “You wrote speeches for him,” he said to his brother, also on the podcast, who previously worked as one of Trump’s speechwriters.
He continued: “I campaigned for him – I mean, we’re implicated in this for sure. It’s not enough to say, ‘Well, I changed my mind’, or like ‘Oh, this is bad – I’m out’.
“In very small ways, but in real ways, you and me and millions of people like us are the reason this is happening right now.”
“It’s awful to watch”
He went on to argue that Trump “clearly [had] no plan” for the conflict, and the criticism didn’t stop there.
Earlier this month, Carlson told Newsmax: “I’ve always liked Trump and still feel sorry for him – as I do for all slaves. He’s hemmed in by other forces.
““He can’t make his own decisions. It’s awful to watch.”
Meanwhile, Trump’s frustration has extended beyond Carlson. He also lashed out at several former allies, including Megyn Kelly, Candace Owens, and Alex Jones.
