Huge fortune Liam Payne left his 9-year-old son after his death at 31 revealed in court

Liam Payne’s nine-year-old son, Bear, will be the sole beneficiary of the late One Direction star’s multimillion-dollar estate, according to High Court documents.

Liam Payne, best known as a member of the globally successful boy band One Direction, passed away on October 16, 2024. He was in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he fell from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur hotel. Payne was 31 years old.

He had traveled to the city with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, to support his close friend and former bandmate Niall Horan, who had performed there. Cassidy later returned home to Florida, while Payne chose to remain in South America. He was alone when the tragic incident occurred.

Liam Payne’s death

Following his death, Cassidy shared an emotional tribute on Instagram, expressing her grief.

“My heart is shattered in ways I can’t put into words. I wish you could see the huge impact you’ve had on the world, even as it feels so dark right now,” she wrote.

“You brought so much happiness and positivity to everyone – millions of fans, your family, friends, and especially me. You are so incredibly loved. You are – because I can’t say were – my best friend, the love of my life, and everyone you touched felt just as special as I did. Your energy was contagious, lighting up every room you walked into.

“None of this feels real, and I can’t wrap my head around this new reality of not having you here. I’m struggling to figure out how to live in a world without you by my side.”

Liam Payne’s family

An inquest into Payne’s death began in May 2026 to determine whether it could have been prevented and to better understand the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

Payne shared a son, Bear, with former partner Cheryl Tweedy. According to the High Court, the nine-year-old will be the sole beneficiary of his father’s estate. The Sun reports that Bear is set to inherit approximately $27 million.

Following Payne’s death, Cheryl and music industry lawyer Richard Bray were entrusted with handling his estate. While Bear is expected to receive the inheritance once he becomes an adult, the new Letters of Administration may permit access to some of the assets before that time. The estate is also believed to include Payne’s five-bedroom property in Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire, according to UNILAD.
