Serial killer admits horrifying actions when he was a child at recess may have led to him murdering three people

John Duffy is one of the UK’s most notorious serial killers. After his capture, he was interviewed for years by an expert. During these interviews, Duffy revealed a shocking detail from his childhood that may have been the decisive factor in leading him down a dark, horrible path.

Nicknamed the “Railway Killer,” John Duffy attacked women near UK railway stations during the 1980s. He remains infamous for his multiple rapes and murders, targeting victims in isolated areas around transport hubs.

A criminologist recently re-examined Duffy’s case, suggesting that disturbing behavioral patterns in his childhood could have provided early clues to his later violent crimes.

According to the criminologist’s analysis, attention is again drawn to the unsettling shadows in Duffy’s childhood, with claims that he displayed traits that, in retrospect, eerily align with those often seen in violent offenders. These reportedly included chilling early signs of aggression, control issues, and troubling, alienating interactions with his peers.

Duffy, together with David Mulcahy, was responsible for the rape and murder of at least three women in the 1980s in England. They got the nickname “The Railway Killers” because they targeted women around railway stations. They then followed them to more discrete and isolated locations when they struck.

In total, 18 women were assaulted near various train stations before the crimes escalated to murder.

John Duffy was eventually arrested in November 1986. Following his arrest in 1988, he was convicted of two murders and four rapes and given a minimum tariff of 30 years.

However, it wasn’t until 1997 that he was finally named Mulcahy, which led to the man being convicted in 2001 and sentenced to three life terms.

While shocking the country, the case also prompted a new investigative approach.

For the first time in British criminal history, investigators turned to psychological offender profiling to help track down a suspect. The groundbreaking idea was led by Professor David Canter of the University of Surrey.

Canter created a profile of 17 personality traits for the offender; when Duffy was caught, 12 of the traits matched the profile.

Speaking on LADbible’s Minutes With YouTube series, Dr. Graham Hill revealed shocking details about the interviews he conducted with Duffy after Duffy’s capture.

Hill said he interviewed Duffy for years and found him “very vulnerable.” Instead of focusing on the crimes, Dr. Hill turned to the killer’s past. Then he made a shocking discovery.

“It turns out that he was expelled several times for chasing one particular little girl in the playground and sexually assaulting her,” Hill told Minutes With, adding that the moment, for him, “seemed to be the origins of this intrigue about stalking and hunting”

“There seemed to be some sort of connection between his behavior in childhood and his later adult sexual offending,” Hill said on LADbible’s Minutes With YouTube series, explaining that he had pointed that out to Duffy, who responded, “‘You know, I’ve never really thought about that, but now you mention it, you might be right.'”

“If you give people enough time and ask them the right questions, sometimes you can give them something that helps them understand their own behavior,” Dr. Graham Hill continued.
