Prince Harry has spoken about his late mother, Princess Diana, many times. While she never got to meet either Harry’s children or his wife, Meghan Markle, the Duke has ensured her legacy lives on. In his book, Spare, Harry shared the emotional moment when he and Meghan visited her grave – and revealed that Meghan prayed.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the royal family years ago. Since then, a lot has happened, and the relationship between them and the rest of the Firm is frosty.
While Meghan Markle never met Princess Diana, one royal expert claims the Duchess had her sights set on becoming the next “People’s Princess” in line.
In his book House of Beckham, which focuses on David and Victoria Beckham’s relationship, royal expert Tom Bower wrote that Meghan Markle saw herself as “the royal family’s new Diana” after arriving home from the successful royal tour of Australia.
At the same time, she was discontent that “in the royal hierarchy she was subservient to Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and the future Queen.”

However, the celebrity biographer claims Meghan was discontent that “in the royal hierarchy she was subservient to Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and the future Queen.”
Despite her and Charles’ divorce and her exit from royal life, Princess Diana continued to be one of the biggest celebrities before her tragic death in 1997. And it appears Meghan Markle wanted to walk the same celebrity path as her husband’s late mother.
Prince Harry and his brother, Prince William, has made sure to keep their mother’s legacy alive. They have spoken about her in public many times, and we can probably assure that the Duke will tell his children all about their late grandmother.
In 2022, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle traveled to Althorp, where the Princess of Wales has her final resting place.
Prince Harry reveals what Meghan Markle prayed for at Princess Diana’s grave
In Harry’s tell-all memoir Spare, the Duke revealed that while he stepped away to leave flowers and speak privately to his mother, Meghan Markle decided to pray to pay her respects.
“No visit to this place was ever easy, but this one… twenty-fifth anniversary,” Prince Harry wrote in Spare. “And Meg’s first time. At long last, I was bringing the girl of my dreams home to meet mum.”
“We hesitated, hugging, and then I went first. I placed flowers on the grave. Meg gave me a moment, and I spoke to my mother in my head, told her I missed her, asked her for guidance and clarity.”
Harry continued, “Feeling that Meg might also want a moment, I went around the hedge, scanned the pond. When I came back, Meg was kneeling, eyes shut, palms against the stone.”
“I asked, as we walked back to the boat, what she’d prayed for,” Prince Harry added. “Clarity, she said. And guidance.”
