Anna Faris shared how she navigates raising a religious teenage son despite not being religious herself, opening up about their ongoing conversations on faith during an appearance on Chelsea Handler’s podcast.
Anna Faris and Chris Pratt have been co-parenting their son Jack since their 2017 split, and one part of that has turned out to be more complicated than most: religion.
Speaking on Chelsea Handler’s Dear Chelsea podcast, Faris explained that Jack, now 14, has grown into someone with strong religious convictions, despite Faris herself not being raised with religion at all.
At one point, he asked her to accept Jesus Christ. She told him she’d do almost anything for him, but that this particular request would take a lot of ongoing conversation first.
Faris feels she can be direct with Jack
Faris said she feels comfortable pushing back on some of his views partly because of how emotionally grounded he is. She described him as “solid as a tugboat,” someone who doesn’t get easily rattled and tends to handle difficult conversations well.
That’s given her room to ask him harder questions. She’s brought up whether being pro-life might be a position of privilege, and mentioned a mega pastor she considers “kind of a grifter.” Jack, for his part, agreed that mega pastors are “the worst.”
Faris was also candid about how Jack’s shift in perspective wasn’t hasty, instead describing it as slow progress, something closer to “we’re getting there” than any real turning point.
Still, she said she appreciates that Jack is starting to examine his beliefs on his own terms, and that they’re able to have these conversations at all.
Jack was born nine weeks premature in 2012, an experience Pratt has said strengthened his own religious faith.
Pratt has remained openly Christian since, particularly after marrying Katherine Schwarzenegger in 2019, whom he met at church. Faris married cinematographer Michael Barrett in 2021.
