Pamela Cisneros, 49, was shot and killed by police after she allegedly attacked two people in the middle of Times Square, New York, on Monday. After the deadly attack, her mother has spoken out about how law enforcement handled the situation.
The terrifying attack took place Monday in the middle of one of the country’s busiest tourist destinations – Times Square.
Pamela Cisneros, a 49-year-old woman from Queens, allegedly pulled two large kitchen knives from a Target bag and attacked two random people.
One of the victims, 32-year-old Erin Piacenti, died at the hospital following the attack. The other, 68-year-old Tak Kam, survived but was rushed to the hospital after suffering stab wounds to his abdomen.
The attack eventually led to police fatally shooting Cisneros.
Horrifying attack in the middle of Times Square
After the terrifying ordeal, Cisneros’ mother shared her thoughts on how the confrontation was handled by police.
Speaking in Spanish, the mother, who requested to remain anonymous, expressed confusion and questioned the decision to use lethal force.
“There were so many police… why didn’t they grab her by the arm?” Cisneros’ mother said in an interview with Fox 5 News.
According to the family, Cisneros had been struggling with her mental health for quite some time. Her brother said she was suffering from bipolar disorder and had received treatment for it.
She also had a documented history involving authorities related to her mental health. In 2018, she was reportedly found intoxicated and shouting along Lexington Avenue, prompting police to respond. A few months later, she attempted to take her own life by jumping in front of an E train in Queens.
Despite that history, her family said there had been little indication that she could suddenly become violent. As recently as Saturday, Cisneros reportedly told her loved ones that she was feeling “fine.”
The deadly horror in Times Square has now left two families facing the devastating aftermath of the attack, while Cisneros’ loved ones are also left mourning her death.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones affected by this tragic incident.
