Margot Robbie may be one of Hollywood’s most recognizable names, but the actress has reportedly made a quiet change to her name.
The 36-year-old has been married to Tom Ackerley since 2016, and the couple has managed to keep much of their life together relatively private. That has become even more apparent since they welcomed their first child in October 2024. Robbie and Ackerley have a baby boy, but they have chosen not to share his name publicly.
The couple’s relationship has also extended well beyond their personal lives. They are business partners as well, having co-founded LuckyChap Entertainment.
And despite working together while also sharing a marriage, the pair have previously described their relationship as surprisingly seamless. Ackerley discussed their dynamic in a 2024 interview with The Times, explaining that there isn’t really a dividing line between their work and personal lives.
“It’s seamless. We don’t have a toggle on, toggle off. It’s all become one thing,” he said.
Robbie has similarly spoken warmly about being married to Ackerley, telling Porter that she believes there are benefits to working alongside your partner.
“I’m a great advocate of doing business with your partner,” she said.
“Being married is actually the most fun ever, life got way more fun somehow. I have a responsibility being someone’s wife, I want to be better.”

Now, however, it appears Robbie may have made another change connected to their marriage.
Documents reported by the Daily Mail show that the actress is now listed as Margot Elise Ackerley, meaning she has reportedly taken Ackerley’s surname.
It is not known whether the change is purely personal or whether Robbie intends to use her married name professionally, too.
Robbie and Ackerley first met while working on Suite Française, and became friends before starting a relationship the following year, eventually marrying in 2016.
Looking back on the beginning of their relationship in a 2016 interview with Vogue, Robbie described how she had fallen for Ackerley while believing he would never feel the same way.
She said: “We were friends for so long. I was always in love with him, but I thought, ‘Oh, he would never love me back. Don’t make it weird, Margot. Don’t be stupid and tell him that you like him.’ And then it happened, and I was like, ‘Of course, we’re together. This makes so much sense, the way nothing has ever made sense before.’”
