A young man spent 18 days in a coma after a skateboarding accident and claims he met Jesus during that time.
Gabe Poirot was 20 years old when he was riding his electric skateboard and hit an object in the road at around 30 miles per hour. He flew to the ground and cracked his skull open on the sidewalk.
The accident happened on October 25, 2021 and left Poirot with a severe traumatic brain injury. Doctors placed him in a medically induced coma, in which he remained for 18 days.
What he says he experienced
According to Poirot he wasn’t just unconscious, he was somewhere else entirely for those days.
“It was pretty wild because I was above my own body. I looked at it and said ‘Wow, that’s me but that’s not me because I am fully alive now.’ It was just my body. Like, that was it,” he said.
Poirot claims he encountered Jesus, describing him as West Asian-looking with slightly curly hair. He said Jesus appeared to him everywhere during the experience, “the mountains and the trees,” as he put it.
The four words he kept hearing
Poirot has spoken about one phrase in particular that repeated throughout his time in the coma: “Worthy is the lamb.” The phrase is from the Book of Revelation, chapter 5, verse 12 and part of the Bible’s apocalyptic vision attributed to John of Patmos.
Describing the moment further, Poirot said, “And then the waves and the rivers of the waters of life will receive that same note and they’ll sing back, ‘worthy is the lamb.'”
He’s also described a specific message he says Jesus gave him directly.
“When Jesus looked at me, he picked up my face, and he said, ‘Gabriel, why are you concerned about that which has been paid for?'”
A prayer that he believes brought him back
Toward the end of his coma, a close family friend named Ginger visited Poirot in the hospital and prayed over him. She later recalled the moment to the Christian Broadcasting Network.
“I looked at him and I said, Gabe, you know my voice. You cannot stay in this coma.”
Poirot believes it was the prayers said on his behalf that brought him back. He described watching those prayers from what he calls Heaven’s perspective, forming bridges that eventually reached Jesus.
“And then Jesus united himself with them, and they got bigger. And bigger and bigger,” he said.
Poirot has since made the experience central to his life and his Christian ministry, detailing what he says he saw and felt in his book, 18 Days in Heaven: I Left My Body. I Met Jesus.
He says the experience fundamentally reshaped how he understands faith, life, and his own sense of purpose. He now shares his story widely online, with his content reaching over 2.2 million subscribers on YouTube.
