The U.S. Air Force service member who died after falling during a pregame demonstration at a college football game has been identified.
The fatal incident happened on October 17, before the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) football game against Navy.
The Air Force service member, who had served in the military for 15 years, fell 170 feet onto the field. Officials at Nellis Air Force Base later identified him as Tech. Sgt. Ian Patterson, of the 6th Combat Training Squadron, according to UNILAD.
The incident unfolded before more than 23,000 spectators, who watched as Patterson fell from the rafters during a pregame demonstration. He was one of four military personnel scheduled to participate in the display. During the demonstration, Patterson appeared to lose his grip and slide rapidly down the rope.
He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
