‘He’s my hero’ — 84-year-old veteran saved by newly adopted cat Fluffy after a bad fall

Ron Williams is 84 years old and doesn’t get around easily, which is why he depends on his life alert device and cell phone should he ever get into trouble.

The Army veteran lives alone in Michigan with his feline friend Fluffy, who was given to him by a friend who thought he could do with a four-legged companion.

“I looked at him and hey, I just fell in love with him,” Ron told FOX 4.

And that feline friend became more than a beloved companion after the elderly veteran fell while getting out of the shower.

Ron landed in a position where he couldn’t move, and with his life alert device and cell phone out of reach, he spent the next 16 hours on the floor of the bathroom.

“My arm was pinned under me, and the hours kept going by,” he explained.

The army veteran had no choice but to lay in agony on the floor, hoping and praying someone would find him before it was too late.

Thankfully, Ron had a very smart cat nearby.

From the moment Ron got Fluffy, he would spend his day talking to the cat. “The phone would ring, and I would say ‘ring-a-ding’,” he told Fox4 News.

His super-smart cat learned what those words meant, associating them with phone calls, and when Ron felt like all hope was lost he turned to Fluffy to ask for help.

“I said ‘ring-a-ding Fluffy, you’re my only hope,’” Ron told Fox News. “And he was.”

After hearing “ring-a-ding,” Fluffy understood and brought his phone to him, allowing him to call for help just in time.

“It wasn’t even five minutes later I felt something hit my hand. And I’m here because of it.”

“I relive it a million times. What if he wouldn’t have been in there with me? I’d be dead today,” an emotional Ron told the news channel.

Thanks to his pet’s actions, Ron only suffered a few minor bumps and bruises and the two have an even closer bond than before.

“He’s my hero, and he always will be,” Ron said. “He’ll never be away from me until the day I die.”
