Donkey Was Left To Die On The Road. Now He’s Comforted By His New Friend And Family.

Donkey Guerreirinho (Portuguese for “the little warrior”) recently had a terrible experience. While he was out walking along a road just outside the city of Fortaleza in Brazil, he was hit by a car. The impact was strong and left the innocent donkey laying on the ground. To make matters worse, the driver abandoned him right there and then, without even calling for help. He was basically left to die all alone. But his luck soon took a real turn.

Thankfully, two other people came around. Stefanie Rodrigues and Zenith Gurgel just happen to devote large parts of their lives to helping and caring for animals in distress. They quickly realized when they discovered the injured donkey that the authorities would likely just kill it — so they decided to take him to Stefanie’s home.

Her home works as a temporary refuge for animals that need help. As soon as they brought the donkey home, they contacted a veterinarian who examined him. They were told that the collision had given the donkey three fractures in his legs and that he would have to rest before he could receive treatment.

While laying on the floor, the donkey quickly acquired a new friend: a little puppy who also lived at the house quickly became very fond – and curious – about the donkey. He would soon spend all its time at Guerreirinho’s side.

For perhaps the first time in his life, the donkey felt both safe and loved. Quite clearly, the dog’s love for Guerreirinho was mutual!

To help improve the his health, Stefanie and Zenith launched a drive where people could donate money for his treatments. In just four days, they reached 40 percent of the necessary funds. It seems that Guerreirinho would soon be able to stand on his feet again and play with his new friend for real.

I’m crossing my fingers for Guerreirinho to get a quick and painless recovery!
