They Rescued Not Just This One Tiny Donkey, But 200 More Just Like Him.

It’s one of the biggest little rescues you’ll ever see—more than 200 tiny donkeys saved from a miserable existence on 250 acres of tough Texas farmland. But how did 200 miniature donkeys end up there? It was a breeding situation gone horribly wrong. Some Texas cattle ranchers purchased 5 to 6 pairs of miniature donkeys to diversify their business. But when a West-Central Texas drought left the ranchers without enough water to feed all of their animals, they acted incredibly irresponsibly and released their donkeys into the wild. While that may have solved the problem in the ranchers’ minds, the donkeys were still without water and in a hostile environment. Enter Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue. The animal rescue organization was alerted and did the only thing they could—they took in all of the donkeys.

In less than a year, the ranchers went from about a dozen donkeys to more than 200.

Luckily, the good people at Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue took them all.

Between the number of donkeys the sanctuary rescued and the fact that the animals have never been handled, Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue has its work cut out for itself.

Animal rescuers are being extra gentle with the animals as they settle in to their new environment. But there’s still the task of microchipping, de-worming and vaccinating the donkeys.

Once the donkeys are healthy and have learned to trust people, they’ll be put up for adoption and the animals will finally the chance to find loving homes.
