Most of us have seen the film ‘101 Dalmatians’. If you haven’t, and you’re a fan of dogs, I’d suggest giving it a watch.
Alternatively, you can read the real-life story of a pregnant Dalmatian, Miley, who was expected to have three pups in Ballarat Australia. Sure, it might not be the 100 plus that the film promises, but in terms of shock factor, it’s very much in the same ballpark, as you’ll come to see.
When a local vet gave Miley a scan, the dog’s owner, Cecilia Langton-Bunkergot, was told to anticipate three new additions. She herself had a suspicion that Miley might be waiting on more, since the dog’s belly was so big heading into labor. When it came time for the delivery, however, even she was left stunned…
In total, Miley gave birth to 16 puppies! And just when everyone thought it was all over, 13 hours later — another two baby Dalmatians popped out!
18 puppies in total — that’s a record in Australia, where the birth took place.
12 girls and six boys were successfully delivered, and all were happy and healthy after being birthed.
With there being so many, Miley can’t feed them all alone, so Cecilia and her husband joined the effort and committed to round-the-clock nursing care, armed with an overwhelming supply of warm milk.
It’s a safe bet that mama Miley and her owners were left stunned – we can only imagine what the vet (who originally pencilled in three) must have been thinking.
Take a look at the 18 miracles in the clip below. Isn’t the cutest thing you’ve ever seen?
