Al Pacino is one of the most legendary actors of his generation, famous for acclaimed performances in classics like The Godfather, Dog Day Afternoon and Scarface.
This week, the Oscar-winner celebrated his 83rd birthday — and his daughter Olivia shared a sweet tribute to her famous dad on social media.
Pacino is the father of three kids including a pair of twins named Anton and Olivia, who are now 22 years old. Their mother is actress Beverly D’Angelo, who Pacino was with from 1997 to 2003.
After the couple split up, a fierce, public custody battle ensued — but eventually they settled things, and Pacino dedicated his weekends to spending time with the twins.
Decades later, it’s clear Pacino still enjoys a close relationship with his children. Olivia is active on social media, and on Pacino’s birthday on April 25, she shared a photo of him on Instagram expressing her gratitude.
“You’re my best friend and will forever be a true inspiration to me! I love you so so much!”
Mr. Pacino’s own father abandoned him and his mother when he was two years old, and the lasting trauma of that inspired him to be a dedicated, devoted father.
“Having children has helped a lot,” he told the New Yorker in 2014. “I consciously knew that I didn’t want to be like my dad. I wanted to be there. I have three children. I’m responsible to them. I’m a part of their life. When I’m not, it’s upsetting to me and to them. So that’s part of the gestalt. And I get a lot from it.”
Pacino’s oldest child, his daughter Julie, was born in 1989. Her mother is acting coach Jan Tarrant. The actor has been in several serious relationships but has never married.
Happy 83rd birthday to the legendary Al Pacino! We’re glad to see he has such a great relationship with his kids!
