Rock legend Bruce Springsteen has canceled his scheduled performances this week with the E Street Band due to an undisclosed illness.
An official statement was released on X (formerly Twitter) explaining that the Philadelphia shows would be rescheduled for a later date.
“Due to Bruce Springsteen having been taken ill, his concerts with The E Street Band at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on August 16 and 18 have been postponed,” the statement read. “We are working on rescheduling the dates so please hold on to your tickets as they will be valid for the rescheduled shows.”
Springsteen, often referred to as “The Boss”, is currently on his first worldwide tour since 2016, which began in Europe in February before moving to the United States.
Fans expressed their well wishes for Springsteen’s recovery on social media. One fan wrote: “Get well soon @springsteen sending healing hugs,” while another tweeted: “Wishing @springsteen a speedy recovery. We’ll be waiting for you when you’re back! Just get better.”
Concerns were raised about the possibility of COVID-19 affecting Springsteen and his wife, Patti Scialfa, who performs with him. However, no official statement has been made regarding these speculations.
This incident follows a previous mishap in May when Springsteen took a tumble on stage in Amsterdam during a performance. He had to be helped up by a crew member and bandmate.
Springsteen is among several notable musicians who have had to reschedule or cancel shows recently due to unforeseen circumstances or illnesses.
Lionel Richie recently faced backlash after canceling a concert at Madison Square Garden due to bad weather.
“I had two ‘no’s’ to come at the same time,” Richie said in footage captured by fans. “And when those two decided it’s a no — when God says no and when the pilot says no, the answer … I tried to bribe the pilot.”
He continued: “And the pilot said, ‘I do want to see my wife tomorrow’. So tonight we are going to make up for that. I apologize for that a thousand times.”
Madonna also had to reschedule tour dates after being hospitalized for a serious bacterial infection, which saw her spend a few days in ICU after being revived.
I’m praying that Bruce makes a speedy recovery, and that he’ll be on his way to entertaining audiences again soon!
