John Travolta and his family have had a very rough couple of years. His wife and mother to his children, Kelly Preston, passed away in 2020, and now, John is trying to move on. Everything is about family, and together with his children Benjamin and Ella Bleu Travolta, they are doing all they can to live a normal life again.
For Ella Bleu, losing her mother was of course a very tough thing, as it would be for everyone. She’s been following in her father’s footsteps within the acting business. Now, she’s back with a new announcement through her Instagram page, but it wasn’t the announcement that left her fans stunned.
Instead, Ella Bleu Travolta showed of a whole new look – and she sure is beautiful!
John Travolta has been through plenty in his private life as well as professional career.
The now well-respected and famous actor once wasn’t as famous, and at one point it actually looked as if his career was done. Sure, he had already done Grease as well as Saturday Night Fever. But at the beginning of the 1990s, things weren’t looking great.
John Travolta – Hollywood legend
For Travolta, everything changed with Pulp Fiction, the now-legendary Quentin Tarantino film.
Not only did it, once again, turn Travolta’s career around, but it immortalized him and his character in film history. The most memorable thing about his performance in the film? Well, that might just be the amazing dancing scene with Uma Thurman.
“‘Quentin recommended the Twist,” Travolta told Vanity Fair. “And I said, ‘Well, Little Johnny Travolta won the Twist contest when I was eight years old, so I know every version. But you may add other novelty dances that were very special in the day’.”
“He said, ‘What do you mean?’ I said, “There was the Batman, the Hitchhiker, the Swim, as well as the Twist.’ And I showed them to him, and he loved them. I said, ‘I’ll teach Uma the steps, and when you want to see a different step, call it out.’”
The dance moves helped to elevate John Travolta to the next level. In 1995, he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, and also nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama.
“I thought [Tarantino] was making a small movie. I never imagined the phenomenon it would become,” he told Esquire.
“You hope to do a good job and to be able to communicate with the audience, longing for them to get the pleasure you had when you made the film.”
Diana dance at the White House
But even though it was a hugely impressive dance in Pulp Fiction, John Travolta probably had his biggest dance 10 years earlier.
It was at a White House state dinner in 1985 – where he danced with Princess Diana herself. It was iconic, both for her and John.
The dinner at the White House was hosted by then-President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan.
“I looked her in the eye and said, ‘We’re good. I can do this,” he recalled in a 2007 interview with the Mirror.
Travolta led Princess Diana through the dance, and the moment that he took her in his arms was something special indeed for the legendary actor. In fact, he described his feelings as those like “a frog who had been turned into a prince.”
Not only was the dance with Diana special for John Travolta, but it also heralded a sort of fresh start for the actor. Pictures of him and Diana dancing spreading all over the world.
Speaking to the Mirror in 2007, John Travolta actually credited the dance with Diana as “saving” his career.
“That was an amazing moment because I was having a dip in my career and no one was interested in me,” he said. “Suddenly, I was the only thing that mattered in America to Princess Diana. I was like ‘Wow! I matter to someone again.’”
He added: “I was on the cover of every newspaper and magazine in the world and someone as significant as Princess Diana reminded everyone of me.
“It was a wonderfully special moment of her fulfilling a dream and giving me a new value.”
John Travolta – family
Through the years, John Travolta evolved into one of the greatest actors of the century. And at the same time, he also met the love of his life, creating a wonderful family.
In 1992, following his proposal at the Palace Hotel restaurant in Gstaad, Switzerland the year before, John Travolta married Kelly Preston.
She was born Kelly Kamalelehua Smith on October 13th, 1962 in Honolulu, Hawaii, and just like John, she was working in the film industry. She studied acting the University of Southern California. In 1985, she started her acting career, appearing in several major movies such as Mischief, Twins, Jerry Maguire and For Love of the Game.
Preston had some minor television roles during the course of her career as well. In 2018, she starred in the film Gotti, which became her final film role.
In July of 2020, Kelly Preston passed away after being diagnosed with breast cancer. She was 57.
“On the morning of July 12, 2020, Kelly Preston, adored wife and mother, passed away following a two-year battle with breast cancer,” a family representative told People at the time.
Wife Kelly Preston passed away
“Choosing to keep her fight private, she had been undergoing medical treatment for some time, supported by her closest family and friends,” the family representative added.
“She was a bright, beautiful and loving soul who cared deeply about others and who brought life to everything she touched. Her family asks for your understanding of their need for privacy at this time.”
John Travolta wrote on Instagram: “My family and I will forever be grateful to her doctors and nurses at MD Anderson Cancer Center, all the medical centers that have helped, as well as her many friends and loved ones who have been by her side. Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered.”
In a heartfelt message on social media later in 2020, Travolta thanked all the people that had reached out to him and his family following his wife’s passing.
“I just wanted to take this moment to thank each and every one of you for supporting me in such an incredible way this year,” Travolta said.
The couple welcomed son Jett in 1992. However, he tragically passed away in January 2009 after suffering a seizure, at age 16. In 2000, Kelly gave birth to daughter Ella Bleu Travolta, and 10 years later, son Benjamin arrived.
John Travolta’s daughter Ella Bleu is now 21 years old, and she has followed in her father’s footsteps.
Ella Bleu Travolta – career
Ella Bleu loved the stage already as a child. In the family house in Maine, they set up a small stage area with a red curtain, and there, Ella and her friends performed. They did everything from performing The Incredible Hulk to different Christmas shows. One year, they even performed as different ‘Housewives of Maine.’
“Since I was very little, I’ve loved performing, singing, dancing and putting on shows at home for my family and friends,” Ella Bleu told People.
When she was just 9 years old, she made her film debut in Old Dogs, starring alongside her parents, as well as the late legendary actor and comedian Robin Williams.
”It was awesome to act with my parents in my first movie, it made it a lot easier,” Ella Bleu told Celebrity Pulse.
Starring in Old Dogs wasn’t the last time she’d be working alongside her father John Travolta. 10 years later, she stared in the drama The Poison Rose.
Ten years after her first role, Ella once again acted beside her dad in the drama The Poison Rose. In the picture above, Ella and dad John can be seen on the set in the past.
Being the child of an incredible famous and successful actor can surely be very tough. But Ella has always felt that she had the support of her parents.
“When I have any questions, my mom and dad have the best advice, and that’s amazing. I love that it’s sort of the family business!” she said.

When her mother passed away, Ella Bleu mourned her death alongside her father and little brother. But she also made sure to pay tribute to Kelly Preston in the most beautiful way.
When she passed, Ella Bleu Travolta wrote a wonderful tribute to her mother through her Instagram page.
“I have never met anyone as courageous, strong, beautiful and loving as you. Anyone who is lucky enough to have known you or to have ever been in your presence will agree that you have a glow and a light that never ceases to shine and that makes anyone around you feel instantly happy. Thank you for being there for me no matter what,” Ella wrote on Instagram.
“Thank you for your love, thank you for your help and thank you for making this world a better place. You have made life so beautiful and I know you will continue to do so always. I love you so much, mama.”
