George Stephanopoulos is in the hot seat.
The ABC News anchor was caught on camera expressing his opinion about President Biden’s ability to run for a second term just days after his highly anticipated interview with the current president.
On Tuesday, Stephanopoulos was stopped by a passerby on the streets of New York City and asked what he thought of Biden continuing to stay in the presidential race.
“Do you think Biden should step down? You’ve talked to him more than anybody else has lately,” the person asked in a video obtained and shared by TMZ.
“I don’t think he can serve four more years,” the Good Morning America host replied.
Stephanopoulos’ comment comes days after Biden’s first sit-down interview since his disastrous debate performance.
During the interview, Stephanopoulos pressed the 81-year-old vying for reelection with questions about his poor debate performance, but Biden refused to say much more than it was a “bad episode.”
Following the publication of the video, Stephanopoulos told Puck News via a spokesperson that he responded to a question that he “shouldn’t have.”
ABC also issued its own statement, separating themselves from the journalist.
“George expressed his own point of view and not the position of ABC News.”
Is George Stephanopoulos or should he have kept his thoughts to himself? Let us know what you think in the comments.
