Hugh Grant ‘hated’ playing an Oompa Loompa in ‘Wonka’

Hugh Grant, once known for playing the romantic lead in movies has since transitioned into more dramatic roles. But his latest is neither romantic nor dramatic, and if you ask him it’s the one he “hated” the most.

When asked to describe his experience filming Wonka, Grant replied “drivel.”

During a press conference for the film, Grant, 63, shared his thoughts about the prequel, and they weren’t as positive as one might have hoped.

He described the cameras he had to wear on his head for the animators like “crown of thorns, very uncomfortable.”

“I made a big fuss about it,” he admitted. “adding ‘”I couldn’t have hated the whole thing more.”

Grant, who plays Oompa Loompa Lofty in the film, said he was constantly confused about how he should act.

“And frankly, what I did with my body was terrible, and it’s all been replaced with an animator.”

Not even the dancing scenes were fun because those too were done with animation.

“It’s very confusing, with CGI now, you can’t tell what’s going on.”

Despite his complaints, Grant admitted he did enjoy “messing around and trying new lines.”

While it’s almost certain Grant won’t be playing an Oompa Loompa again anytime soon, he’ll more than likely star in another film. And chances are even though he won’t like it he’ll do it with a smile on his face.

“I slightly hate [making films] but I have lots of children and need money.”
