After both navigating recent divorces, Hollywood stars Kevin Costner, 68, and Reese Witherspoon, 47, are rumored to be exploring a romantic connection with each other.
Most of us will already know that Costner has been embroiled in a messy divorce from his second wife, Christine Baumgartner.
The ‘Dances With Wolves’ actor and his ex have made various accusations against each other, with Costner previously saying that his 49-year-old wife has been employing “stalling tactics” to prolong their already acrimonious divorce battle.
Baumgartner since revealed that she didn’t understand her and Costner’s prenuptial agreement when signing it, though Costner’s legal team dismissed this as “gamesmanship of the worst sort”, according to Entertainment Tonight.
Now, according to an insider from New Idea, Costner and Witherspoon (who were initially engaged in discussions about potential projects) apparently discovered a surprising chemistry that has developed into regular calls and texts.
The source reveals that while they still work together to search for the perfect script, their interactions have become almost a daily occurrence. Describing them as “extremely compatible,” the source notes that their friends also see the potential for a deeper connection. Notably, both actors ended their most recent marriages earlier this year.
Costner’s divorce from his wife of 18 years made headlines due to its messy nature. Baumgartner filed for divorce in May 2023, and after months of legal proceedings, they finally reached a settlement in September.
On the other hand, Reese Witherspoon’s divorce from Jim Toth, her husband of nearly 12 years, took a less dramatic turn. Announcing their separation in March, they finalized their divorce in August.
Unlike Costner’s split, there was no significant drama involved, with a source telling E! Online earlier this year that it was a decision made “with the utmost love and respect and love for their child.” Reese admitted during this time that she felt vulnerable during this time but emphasized that she didn’t feel isolated.
Now, as Costner and Witherspoon explore a potential romance, they are reportedly taking things slow and allowing the relationship to develop organically. The insider suggests that they are cautious about being seen together publicly but may become more relaxed about it once Costner’s commitments to the upcoming 2024 Western thriller ‘Horizon’ are completed (he is co-writing, producing, directing, and starring in the flick). Despite the speculation, it’s acknowledged that it’s still very early days in their connection.
