‘NYPD Blue’ star Austin Majors’ death – more disturbing details emerge

New details concerning the tragic passing of NYPD Blue star Austin Majors have come to light, and they are disturbing.

Austin Majors was best known for his role in NYPD BlueThe long-running crime drama featured Majors as Theo Sipowicz. He played the son of Dennis Franz’s character, the protagonist Detective Andy Sipowicz.

Majors, whose full name was listed as Austin Setmajer-Raglin passed away on February 11, 2023. He was only 27 years old which made his death all the more shocking.

The late child star’s family released a statement that said: “Austin Majors (Setmajer-Raglin) was an artistic, brilliant, and kind human being. Austin took great joy and pride in his acting career. From the time he was little, he never knew a stranger, and his goal in life was to make people happy.”

Now, according to a coroner’s report obtained by Fox, there are some new details that have come to light. Majors was discovered deceased by the staff of the transitional housing facility he was living in at the time. The report noted that the actor did not respond to a “bed check” conducted at approximately 9:33 p.m. PST on February 11.

When paramedics arrived at the scene, they found several items, including two rolled dollar bills, a shot glass with white powder residue, foil containing white “crystal-like” powder, and multiple rectangular four-segment pills, as detailed in the report.

Majors had a history of struggling with substance abuse, including alcohol, Xanax, cocaine, and ketamine.

As previously reported, Majors’ cause of death was determined to be fentanyl toxicity. The place of death was listed as his residence, and the manner was classified as “accidental,” according to records released by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.

Following his death, Majors’ sister Kali also posted a tribute on Facebook, sharing her grief and remembering her brother. She wrote: “My big brother, Austin, is gone. He died last night. It’s so surreal to me still. He was only 27 with so much life left to live.”

Majors had a significant career, notably appearing in seven seasons of the popular series NYPD Blue. His talent also led to guest appearances on shows like According to Jim, American Dad!, Desperate Housewives, An Accidental Christmas, and How I Met Your Mother.

His former NYPD Blue co-star, Dennis Franz, expressed his shock and grief upon hearing the news of Majors’ passing. Franz stated (per Los Angeles Times): “Austin was always such a joy to have on the set; he brought smiles and happiness to everyone.”

He also wrote: “Some of my favorite scenes during the 12 years of NYPD Blue are with Sipowicz and Theo. Every day that Austin worked, I would greet him with a special song, ‘It’s Austin Majors’ Day,’ sung to the tune of ‘Howdy Doody Time.’”
