Peter White, known for his recurring role as Lincoln Tyler on All My Children, has died. He was 86.
White died Wednesday at his home in Los Angeles, according to Kathleen Noone, his former costar. The star died after a battle with melanoma, Noone, who played Ellen Shepherd Dalton on All My Children, confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
Born in New York City on October 10, 1937, White began his career in show business after staring as Jerry Ames on The Secret Storm, but it took off after he was cast in the off-Broadway play The Boys in the Band.
The groundbreaking play told the story of LGBTQ+ life in New York City – post-Stonewall and pre-AIDS – through the eyes of a group of queer people gathered to celebrate a birthday.
Although the play catapulted White’s career, he almost didn’t take the part.
“Things were sort of really moving for me,” he told Soap Opera Digest in 2008. “I was doing so well, and I thought, ‘I don’t need this kind of risk.'”
After getting his start on Broadway he pivoted to a career in television where he appeared in many soap operas like Dynasty, Dallas, Knots Landing, and Falcon Crest, though he was best known for his role on All My Children.White also appeared in several successful movies throughout the years. His credits included Dave, Flubber, Armageddon, and First Daughter.
He was not married nor did he have any children.
Rest in peace, Peter. We will miss you oh, so much. Watching you on the screen brought us such joy throughout the past several decades.
