Robert Redford left a staggering fortune when he passed away

Legendary actor Robert Redford passed away on September 16, aged 89. He is surpassed by his wife and two children. The “Sundance Kid” went from promising actor to worldwide celebrity, author and entrepeneur and made himself a huge fortune. So who is going to be inheriting his money? Let’s take a closer look.

On September 16, the chief executive of the publicity firm Rogers & Cowan PMK, Cindi Berger announced in a statement that 89-year-old actor Robert Redford had passed away. She said Redford born in Santa Monica, California, died in his sleep at his Utah home but didn’t specify the cause of death.

“Robert Redford passed away on September 16, 2025, at his home at Sundance in the mountains of Utah–the place he loved, surrounded by those he loved. He will be missed greatly,” Berger said in a statement to CNN. “The family requests privacy.”

Robert Redford became a legend as he starred as The Sundance Kid in Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid. Other credits includs films such as The Sting, All President’s Men and Out of Africa. He also won the Oscar for best Director in 1981 for Ordinary People.

Besides acting, Redford was an entrepeneur. He wanted to support up-and-coming actors and filmmakers, and founded the Sundance Institute, an organization that supported independent filmmakers. After his death, the organization shared a statement.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our founder and friend Robert Redford,” the statement read. “Bob’s vision of a space and a platform for independent voices launched a movement that, over four decades later,has inspired generations of artists and redefined cinema in the U.S. and around the world.

It continued, “Beyond his enormous contributions to culture at large, we will miss his generosity, clarity of purpose, curiosity, rebellious spirit, and his love for the creative process. We are humbled to be among the stewards of his remarkable legacy, which will continue to guide the Institute in perpetuity.”

The Sundance Institute is known for the prestigious Sundance Film Festival, which became a springboard for many directors, including Quentin Tarantino.

Redford lived in Utah for many years. He bought two acres of land in 1961, and eight years later in 1969, the same year Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid was released, he bought another 5,000 acres. Redford fell in love with the area, named Provo Canyon, and ended up building a cabin on his own. As a big decided to open the Sundance Mountain Resort and designated the biggest part of it as a wilderness preserve.

Robert Redford is survived by his wife, : Sibylle, his two daughter, Shauna and Amy, and seven grandkids Sadly, the actor went through an indescribable heartbreak as his two other children died before him; Jamie, from bile-duct cancer in his liver in October 2020, and Scott, who died only two months old, in 1959.

Another individual who is mourning Robert Redford is his longtime friend Jane Fonda. The pair co-starred in several films together, for example in Redford’s big-screen debut in the 1960 film Tall Story. Fonda described Redford as a “beautiful person in every way.”

“It hit me hard this morning when I read that Bob was gone. I can’t stop crying,” she said, per AFP. “He meant a lot to me and was a beautiful person in every way. He stood for an America we have to keep fighting for.”
