Serena Williams reveals she’s pregnant with second child at Met Gala

Serena Williams is expecting her second child!

The tennis superstar and husband Alexis Ohanian made the announcement on Instagram ahead of her appearance at the Met Gala Monday night.

“Was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the three of us to the Met Gala,” she captioned a carousel of photos.

The couple are already parents to daughter Olympia who was born in 2017.

Williams, 41, famously won the 2017 Australian Open while eight weeks pregnant with Olympia.

She found out she was expecting her first child with husband and Reddit co-founder Ohanian right before the tournament.

The birth of her daughter pushed her to limits that were previously unknown, even as an elite athlete.

“My whole life I’ve been physically pushing my body to the limits,” she said. “And this is the one time where I couldn’t control anything. I couldn’t push my body. My body pushed to its maximum. That was so hard.”

She underwent an emergency C-section and then shortly after delivering Olympia, a coughing fit reopened a wound which led doctors to discover several life-threatening blood clots.

In August 2022, Williams announced her retirement from tennis.

She explained she would be “evolving away” from the sport in an effort to expand her family.

In the last year, Alexis and I have been trying to have another child, and we recently got some information from my doctor that put my mind at ease and made me feel that whenever we’re ready, we can add to our family,” Williams wrote in a first person essay for Vogue.

“I definitely don’t want to be pregnant again as an athlete. I need to be two feet into tennis or two feet out.”
