Shaquille O’Neal may be one of the most generous athletes we’ve ever seen.
The NBA Hall-of-Famer was recently spotted at a Home Depot filming a music video for his new song, “I know I got it,” released under his artist name, DJ Diesel.
While at the home improvement store Shaq interacts with both customers and employees, and while everyone appears excited to see the former Laker, no one is as excited as a mother and daughter duo who went to the store to purchase a washer and dryer.
Thankfully the sweet moment was captured on camera for us all to see.
In the clip Shaq approaches the two women and casually asks them what they’re buying.
One of the women explained they were at Home Depot to purchase a washer and dryer.
“Okay, well I’m paying for it,” Shaq said casually.
It took only a second for the act of kindness to register in the woman’s head before she explained what just happened to her mother. The two shrieked and immediately went up to the gentle giant thanking him for his generosity.
Shaq is known for surprising unsuspecting people, especially kids.
In August 2022, he told People one of his favorite things to do is go into a store and “get them something that I see he’s looking at.”
Every day he tries to create at least one “meaningful moment,” and while most of the time it involves him making a purchase for someone else, once it ended with a family reunion.
He recalled a time when he gave a meal to a homeless woman sitting outside one of his favorite restaurants in Texas. Someone who witnessed the interaction had recorded it and posted it online.
The video led the woman being reunited with her family.
“Her sister had come in crying to the owner, saying, ‘Oh, my god, we’ve been looking for her for six months. We couldn’t find her. We didn’t know if anything was wrong with her.’ They tried to take her to get help. She didn’t want to get help, so she’s still out there, but at least her sister knows where she is. Her sister could bring her clothes and water or something. But, when I do stuff like that, I never record it.”
Shaq has such a kind heart. I wish other athletes would see the good he does and do the same with their money.
