Sharon Osbourne is no stranger to being in the headlines, and this week the TV personality was grabbing attention for her new barely-there figure.
The 70-year-old was recently papped during a shopping spree in Beverly Hills, showcasing her recent weight loss, which she has previously said is the result of some pretty controversial weight loss injections.
After shedding 30lbs, Sharon did reveal that the Wegovy injections – which is the name of the semaglutide medicine that works by reducing appetite – had severe side effects, leaving her feeling “very sick”.
Sharon, who is no longer taking the injections, showed off her slender figure while indulging in retail therapy at Estefano Ricci, before heading to Nate’n Al’s for some food.
The former X Factor judge was sporting a casual look, complete with a tailored white button-down shirt and black straight-leg trousers. She accessorized with an oversized Loewe shoulder bag, a stylish hat, and trendy shades to shield herself from the sunny rays.
Her appearance follows a frank discussion she had about the detrimental effects she suffered from after using the controversial weight loss injections. During an episode of her former show, The Talk, in May, her co-host Daisy McAndrew explained that weight loss isn’t as simple as increasing exercise.
“It doesn’t work like that for a lot of people’s metabolism,” Daisy said.
Sharon agreed, saying (per Page Six): “It doesn’t. It is a mental problem. It really is, apart from, you know, when children grow up in a household where they live off chips and pies. But I took it. I took it for four months, and I lost 30 pounds, but like everything, there’s always no quick recipe.”
Opening up about her health struggles, she added: “I was very sick for a couple of months. The first couple of months, I just felt nauseous. Every day I felt nauseous, my stomach was upset, whatever.”
She continued: “But listen, I took it for four months, I lost 30 pounds. I’ve just shoved two chips in my mouth while we had the break, and I eat normally now, and I haven’t put on a pound. Nothing.”
Sharon’s remarks came amidst news that the UK launch of WeGovy, the weight loss injections, had been temporarily halted due to concerns of overwhelming demand, according to The Daily Mail. Initially, patients were expected to self-administer the drug weekly using a pen. The medication works by inducing a feeling of fullness and satisfaction, reducing appetite.
Not everyone was so convinced about Sharon’s weight loss, with several people taking to social media to comment that the star looked unrecognizeable, “awful”, and “sick”.
One person commented underneath a paparazzi shot of the star: “Good grief, I wouldn’t [have] recognized her. Dreadful!”
Someone else added that Sharon looked “skeletel”, saying: “Skeletal looks awful [sic].”
“She looks sick,” a further user wrote.
In 2014, Sharon admitted that she felt like a “cheat” after having lapband surgery to help her to lose weight. While she did end up losing a whopping 100lbs, she was more concerned about the long-term side effects of the medical procedure.
“It makes you vomit the whole time. Nothing goes down because it goes out,” she told ET.
Sharon eventually had the band removed in 2006, and went back to focusing on a traditional diet and exercise regime to maintain her figure.
