Just when Aerosmith fans thought the news couldn’t get any worse for lead singer Steven Tyler, news from his doctor revealed an even more serious injury that originally believed.
The injury, which requires patience and rest, has forced the rock band to postpone all of their concerts until 2024.
“To our fans: Unfortunately, Steven’s vocal injury is more serious than initially thought,” the band said in a statement Friday.
Earlier this month the frontman suffered vocal cord damage during a New York show. Despite the injury, Tyler, 75, powered through the remainder of the concert.
It wasn’t until after the show when Aerosmith released a statement announcing the postponement of several shows that fans became aware of Tyler’s injury.
“To all our fans,” the statement began. “I’m heartbroken to say I have received strict doctor’s orders not to sing for the next thirty days. I sustained vocal cord damage during Saturday’s show that led to subsequent bleeding.”
“We’ll need to postpone a few dates so that we can come back and give you the performance you deserve.”
Tyler further clarified the situation by letting fans know he had received “strict doctor’s orders” not to sing for the next 30 days.
According to TMZ, an x-ray showed his vocal cords were “mangled.”
But on Friday the band once again released a statement shedding even more light on Tyler’s injury.
“His doctor has confirmed that in addition to the damage to his vocal cords, he fractured his larynx which requires ongoing care,” the band stated. “He is receiving the best medical treatment available to ensure his recovery is swift, but given the nature of a fracture, he is being told patience is essential.”
Tyler added he was “heartbroken” he wasn’t able to rock with the best fans in the world, but promised Aerosmith would be back as soon as possible.
The band’s PEACE OUT tour is set to be their final tour.
