Tom Cruise on when we’ll see the last of ‘Mission: Impossible’s Ethan Hunt

There’s some actors you immediately associate with the character they portray in a film or TV series. Tom Cruise is one of them.

Cruise has been playing spy Ethan Hunt in the film franchise Mission: Impossible since 1996. Since then he’s starred in all six films – the seventh and eight films are set to premiere July 2023 and June 2024.

But when is enough? And how long will the franchise continue? Cruise recently spoke with Entertainment Tonight about the possibility of the end of Ethan Hunt.

“You know, I can’t tell you right now,” Cruise said during the U.K. premiere of Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One. “I want to enjoy this moment right now, and it’s Part One and Part 2. This is a big action-adventure movie for everyone and I look forward to seeing it.”

While Cruise is currently contemplating the possible end of Ethan Hunt, he almost didn’t have a say in the matter when filming the latest film.

“Well, we know either we’re gonna continue with the film or we’re not,” Cruise said of performing the most dangerous stunt of his career. “Let’s know day one… Do we all continue, or is it a major rewrite?”

Luckily and thankfully all went smoothly and not only did Ethan Hunt survive to see another day, but so did Tom Cruise.

“It was years preparing. I mean, I’ve been riding motorcycles since I was a little kid, raced cars and spent a lot of time just with aerobatics, airplanes, helicopters and parachutes… It all kind of came to that moment.”

I love the Mission: Impossible franchise! I really hope this isn’t the last we see of Ethan Hunt, but if it is I do hope he goes out with a bang.
