Utah State University cornerback Andre Seldon Jr. found dead at 22 after apparent cliff-diving accident

Utah State cornerback Andre Seldon Jr. tragically died on Saturday in a reported cliff-diving accident.

As per CNN, local deputies were called to the Porcupine Reservoir in Cache County, Utah at around 2:20 p.m. MT after a man dove from the cliffs into the water and failed to resurface.

The fatal incident is said to have occurred just 20 miles from Utah State’s campus, according to the university.

After the authorities were alerted, search and rescue teams began searching for the man who had dove from the cliff. A body was then found in the reservoir at 9:05 p.m. by the Utah Department of Public Safety dive team.

The individual was later identified by Utah State university as Andre Seldon, who was joining the football team this year after two seasons at New Mexico State University and two at the University of Michigan.

Utah State interim Head Coach Nate Dreiling said: “Our football program is heartbroken to have to endure the loss of one of our own.”

As per CNN, Seldon had transferred into the Utah football program this summer and was set to start classes this fall.

“Having had a previous relationship with Andre during our time together at New Mexico State, I can tell you he was an incredible person and teammate,” Dreiling added.

“Our condolences and prayers go out to Andre’s family as we grieve with them over this tremendous loss.”

Seldon started his collegiate football career at the University of Michigan in 2020 before transferring to New Mexico State. He was a starter in 12 out of 13 games with the latter team in 2022, ranking fifth on the team for tackles.
